IR equals line of sight = greatly limited distance from hub.
Personally, Iād go with the osram lightify. I have 4 sets of the. In my house. (3 of them for kitchen under cabinet lighting) may not be the cheapest, but great deal when on sale. Over Nov/Dev I was picking these up for around $37 a piece (3 x 2 ft strips + controller) when on sale + the infamous Loweās 15 off 50 coupon. I wish I had gotten more than the 4 I purchased! I went crazy on lightify & grabbed few garden spots & some wall switches too.
Hey all⦠Been trying to follow this thread, but have some Qās.
Iām a self proclaimed geek and techie, but Smartthings is a whole new world that Iām getting into.
I have the Dresden FLS-PP IP with my LED lights, and am having a hard time adding them to my hub. I see the controller in my device list under the device list in my account, but cannot seem to actually control it. Iāve tried adding it as a Hue bulb, a Zigbee Bulb, etc.
I see the device in my device list on my phone app and it shows the right controls for that type, but doesnāt seem to do anytying.
Any ideas? Iām new at debugging this stuff, so be kind
thanks!!!
I set the device type to Zigbee RGBW bulb and see the white color settings in my phone app. Now, when I change the color temp on the app, I see the name of the color update in my device current states:
Current States
colorName: Daylight
Current States
colorName: Cool White
etcā¦
So it looks like theyāre actually talking⦠just canāt seem to get the on/off or color settings to work
not sure if someone has mention this guy. i found him on youtube trying to figure out what i can use besides Philiphue light strip. to be honest something cheaper then spending about $120 for 12 ft of LED light strip as well as for multiple places⦠so i found this guy and since most of everyone here does home hacks or DIY, i figure this is up your guys roadā¦
Wouldnāt it be the easy way to take a zigbee module out of a hue-compatible bulb, connect it via 12v to 3.3v stepdown converter to the power source and to some logiclevel MosFETs?
In january 2017 the german publisher heise (the german āMakeā magazine) demonstrate how to disassamble a IKEA Tradfri whitespectrum Bulb to get the zigbee module out and connect two normal led via transistor to it. A pretty easy hack. As there are logiclevel MosFETs available, you can simply use them instead of transistors to control much more power.
Since august 2017 firmware, tradfri is compatible to hue. So about 15⬠for the bulb + parts less than 5⬠would make a warmwhite/coldwhite lightstrip controller. The RGBW bulb is 35⬠and the electronic is glued, so more work to get to the controlemodule.
So my solution would be: Try to get a cheap bulb compatible to your system, get the control module out of it, give it the needed 3.3v and let it control some MosFETs.
Out of the box:
Innr Flex FL 130 C
I did not test it myself, als I made my own lightstrip controllers. But it works with Hue-Bridge and Tradfri-Gateway, so an Hue Dimmer or Tradfri remote should work (with Innr GU10 I use them without problem).
The Hue-Dimmer (23ā¬) and the TrĆ„dfri remote (15ā¬) have magnetic wall mounts, so they cam be used as wallswitch. Real wallswitches (powered by 110/230V) are not originaly available by Philips, innr or Ikea, but as third party product. I didnāt test them, as they are quite expensive (about 90ā¬).
So Iām after some strip lighting for our new kitchen and have trawled through pages and pages of forums and websites to find something I think might work. However, I need your help in confirming whether it would work with ST or not.
I should probably start with saying Iām in the UK and I want it linking to ST, as with everything else in our home. I donāt care for Alexa, Google or Siri, because they are just too annoying, so Iām happy to stick to a remote. And Iāve setup everything so far on Z-Wave.
Iām not to bothered about changing the colour on my phone because the changing colour sequence is done on the remote which we would setup before guests arrive, but we would like it to link with our light sensor in the hallway to signal itās too dark and to interact with sunset/night mode as an on/off function.
Firstly, would this work?
Secondly, is this the cheapest way in achieving my goal, or is there other alternatives I could go for?
And finally is there a double wall socket which I can wire in to replace my normal sockets that would connect to ST so I donāt have to keep buying bulky plug extenders?
