Returned new SmartThings Hub due to out-of-stock sensors

I think you should reconsider. I agree with those that have said that much of what makes the ST hub stand out is its ability to use other branded zigbee and z-wave devices. There’s no guarantee your experience will “just work” even with exclusively ST-branded devices on your home automation network. I would recommend using the ST hub with whatever devices you can find that meet your needs (zigbee or z-wave) and you can purchase for a reasonable price. Stick with the devices on the “works with smartthings” list and you wouldn’t have to add custom device handler codes.

An update: the items have returned to stock - and more importantly stayed in stock - so after a month, have re-purchased the hub and sensors. Hope Samsung sticks at it!

I may be teaching my granny how to suck eggs here, but just be aware that the samsung multi sensor devices are zigbee, not Zwave. Many third party modules are Zwave (such as the fibaro dimmers for lights or TKH sockets etc). While the smartthings hub will work with both at the same time, the different formats will have their own individual “mesh” network.

So if you needed to extend the range to reach a zigbee door contact that is out of range of the master hub for example, this will require the addition of a powered zigbee module. The same goes for zwave devices.
