Retry timeout for commands and raising an alarm if failed

best guestimate would be late Q1

This is wonderful to hear.

Yay! This is good news too!

I just had an experience today that seems to be related: I have the “doors & locks” module configured to automatically lock my front door if everyone is away. (Lock up when no one is home) This morning, it kicked in and sent the “lock” command to my front door lock. However, the door didn’t actually lock. (No idea why not.)

ST didn’t retry, didn’t send a notification, or anything else. It just silently failed. The event list for the door lock shows an “APP_COMMAND” to lock the front door (“Front Door sent lock command to Front Door”), followed by a “COMMAND” saying that a lock command was sent to Front Door. Then several polls.

20 minutes later, I noticed in the ST app that my front door was unlocked (so ST knows it failed to lock the door) and so remotely locked it (and it worked.) In this case, different from the first, there was a DEVICE “lock/locked” reply from the front door.

I don’t know (and have no way to find out) where the failure occurred. (I’m recording the time/date stamp of the failure in case someone from support wants to dig it out: 2015-01-12 8:22:18.056 AM EST) That it failed, however, isn’t as important as the fact that ST completely ignored the failure even after it should have known that something wasn’t working (based on the app showing it being unlocked.)

This isn’t the only place where z-wave door lock support falls flat on it’s face. Another is that the lock will log when it’s jammed… and then do nothing about it. No notification. No alert of any kind whatsoever. If I wasn’t such a geek that I check the logs everything few hours, I’d never know about the jams.

What good is HA in this case? This isn’t a lightbulb that didn’t turn on. This is a security concern. In this case, any failure is a COMPLETE failure, and no notification actually makes the system WORSE than no HA at all (because people expect the HA to fix the problem or at the very least notify when the problem isn’t fixed.)

@urman Any update on this? Late Q1 IS here and having confirmation of command execution is still important.
Thank you.
