So i am about to install 2 controllers this week in my house and i was just wondering what some of you are using your buttons to control? I have plans for the big button already but can’t fully decided what i want the other buttons to control.
Toggle multiple lights in near area. I use the large button to kill all lights in the entire house. Nice when running out the door, no questions, everything off. Very flexible unit, can do single or multiple on a toggle type setup, or simple some off or on or any combo there of to create a scene.
thank you for the instructions and code! would very much appreciate if you could help me a bit further. i am stuck at step 4…i click live logging online and configure on my app but the same two lines of code pop up and no buttons get mapped (just 1 button after adding device in step 3)…
this is the two lines in live logging…
Parsing 'zw device: 18, command: 7205, payload: 01 1A 08 01 0B 03 ’
Sending configuration: [7204, delay 100, 8505, delay 100, 2D01010100, delay 100, 2D01020200, delay 100, 2D01030300, delay 100, 2D01040400, delay 100, 2D01050500, delay 100, 2D01060600, delay
any help to map all buttons would be appreciated!
thanks in advance
Usually if only button 1 works after installing, just pull up the device page in the app and hit the config tile and it will resend the config info to the device for the reat of the buttons. Ensure you programed all buttons in smartapp too.
Thank you very much for the suggestion.
I’ve tried that many times but nothing seems to happen. As I mention in post above, the live logging page just shows those two rows.
I’ve hit config in the device page in the app tons of times. Also programmed the the smartapp several times for each button.
I’ve attached a picture of what it looks like on the app. Even though one button shows on the app, it doesn’t work. The actual first button on controller does work.
…I’m out of ideas!
Some have had range issues, maybe a config with hub close as possible. You in a metal box? Config ino don’t seem to pass over mesh, remove device from box or get hub closer, try config tile again. Got a antena wire? Some cut or broke ioff, thus have poor range, I move mine to front near plastic cover.
Else remove/delete device, smartapp and device type and reload all. If you can’t get closer, just pop device out of electrical box and try…
THANK YOU!
It is a steel box that is housing the controller in the wall. I removed it and got more activity in the “logging” when I used configure button on app. However, the buttons still did not map. So while the device was out of the wall (not in the steel enclosure), i removed it and deleted the smartapp, phone app and device type online. I re-did all of it and it worked!
Thanks for the help and hopefully my experience helps others out.
Once programed it should be ok in the metal box, since the zwave mesh should relay the commands. If you have a big zwave network or poor communication, do a zwave repair to clean up the paths to the devices.
@obycode asked this above and I didn’t see any response to his question.
I recently placed a controller in the master bedroom and I really don’t care for the blue led light when sleeping. I would love to be able to not have any leds on at night time, not sure if this section has anything to do with that. Or if there’s another bit of code that would disable the LEDs on the controller.
Nope. Nail polish or stickers.
So this is only a scene controller correct? If I replaced a normal switch I would have to wire that to always hot I assume?
Correct… It doesn’t contain a switch / power relay, unfortunately.
Bummer but what I thought. Thanks
I mentioned this on this thread before, but it is quite long now. One candidate for a place to put these is where you have three-way slave switches. Make the big button toggle the light the 3-way was connected to and then you have 6 more buttons to do other things. The down side to this, is if there are ST hub issues, that switch location will not work. (It’s sad, really, that this type of disclaimer even has to be mentioned… Sigh.)
It is a shame on how unpredictable the system is at times, even with a v2 hub that was supposed to be the savior. This used to be the most intermittent device in the house, but the latest code has in probably the best, for me this device has been nearly 100% for quite some time now, needs to be added to the official list. I have official code acting up more than this now.
That’s a good idea. I put mine in switches in bedrooms that were controlling a wall outlet that didn’t have a lamp plugged into them anyway. Now the outlets are always on and we have the 7 switches.
I put one in the entrance way, which I still have not been able to get it to connect to the Hub(think it’s too far away) haven’t had tons of time to play or move my hub closer. That one will control my front outside door light, holiday lighting, outside security lighting and indoor entrance way lighting which are GE link bulbs, I also will have a Panic routine on it too. I also have one in my bed room which replaced my fan switch switch when and put GE links bulbs in the bedroom fan. I also a Flic and Luton bulb remote to control them besides the controller, which has been working great. On the bedroom controller I have the bedroom fan speed control(controlled via a particle photon), bedroom GE links (as a group via trend setter), a nightlight button(just turns on one of the GE links to 10%) and goodnight and good morning routine. There’s a 1-2 second delay but nothing too crazy
I’m stuck. Received this over the weekend and attempting hooking it up today.
Discovered device (without the app). It found a Z wave controller. No events were registered.
Did more research and found this thread.
Removed the device (took me several tries)
Added the code to My Smart Apps
Connected the device - still came in as Z Wave controller. App doesn’t recognize the device type.
Added the button controller to My Device Handlers. (disconnected/reconnected)
Same result.
This is my first time trying this. I hope there is something (obvious) I’m doing incorrectly.
Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
I made it work after all! Not the easiest thing to do, but finally figured it out and have it controlling my dining room lights (ge smart switch), Kitchen lights (9 ge link smart bulbs), Kitchen table lights (ge dimmer), and family room lights (3 hue bulbs). Have my kitchen set up into 3 zones (it’s pretty big) and use button 7 to turn on/off all kitchen and dining room lights.
A BIG thank you to mattjfrank and the others that helped him with the devlopment. This was exactly what I was looking for when I started looking for a scene controller.
Any tricks you can share? I am planning on installing one of these this weekend.
