[OBSOLETE] Original & Aqara Xiaomi Zigbee Sensors (contact, temp, motion, button, outlet, leak, etc)

I’ve got the dual button wireless switch up and running. It works great, button 1 switches 1 bedlamp. Switch 2 the other bedlamp. Switch 3 (both) switches both lamps. Are there any way I can use hold to dim the lights up and down? Haven’t figured how to do it.

I use the ABC button controller smartapp for dimming… It gives a lot more options, than the built-in Smart Lighting app…

Is the ABC button still working? I read the code wasn’t maintained any more?

The app still works fine on my V2 Hub (Classic app)…

That OSRAM Plug should be a compatible repeater with Xiaomi / Aqara devices.

That is good news! I think maybe your Aqara Button and Door/Window Sensor didn’t get a strong Zigbee signal from your hub, and the IKEA bulb helped to improve that.

Those are symptoms of two possible situations:

  1. You have reached the limit of 32 ZigBee end devices connected to your hub.
  2. You are using an /some AC-powered ZigBee device(s) that operate as a ZigBee repeater, but is incompatible with Xiaomi / Aqara devices. A ZigBee repeater functions like a satellite module of a WiFi Mesh network. It connects directly to the hub, but also allows other ZigBee devices to it. ZigBee repeaters can help extend the effective range of a ZigBee mesh network, and also allow the number of end devices to exceed the limit of 32 directly connected to the hub. However… please see what I said to another user in the same post of my last reply to you:

Do you have any AC-powered ZigBee devices?

Generally, device handlers (DHs) for ZigBee devices do not have any effect on whether the device can be paired with the hub or not. And for Xiaomi / Aqara devices, the DH makes no difference to whether the device can remain connected to the hub or not.

All pairing and connection issues for Xiaomi / Aqara devices are either because of “normal” ZigBee networking concerns (such as the 32 end device limit mentioned above or things like network interference, etc.), or the issues are related to the fact that Xiaomi / Aqara devices do not follow ZigBee standards 100%.

OTA stands for “Over The Air”, and is referring to the capability of SmartThings hubs to do over-the-air firmware updates for some ZigBee devices, but that most definitely does not include Xiaomi / Aqara devices. So this option will have no effect.

After the 3-4 seconds of pause, a single long LED flash means that the pairing was not successful (yet). For the Motion and Water Leak sensors, if the LED flashes 3-4 times after the pause, then the pairing has successfully started - and it is best practice after seeing that to short-press the reset button every 2-3 seconds until either the Xiaomi / Aqara device appears in the mobile app or you see the catchall event.

Since you are having difficulty pairing all of the Aqara devices, my guess is that there’s a ZigBee repeater which is trying to go through the pairing process, but it doesn’t work because the repeater isn’t compatible with the Aqara devices (and actually the truth is it’s the other way around - the Aqara devices aren’t compatible with the repeater.)

I highly recommend reading a thread over on the Hubitat Hub community forums that I started, which looks at pairing Xiaomi / Aqara devices and keeping them connected. It also includes a list of ZigBee repeaters reported to work well with Xiaomi / Aqara devices and a list of ones which don’t work:

Just remember with the Aqara Dual Button Wireless Switch that if you hold either button down too long (over 15 seconds or so), then the switch will go into pairing mode.

The osram doesn’t work as a repeater?.
With ikea bulb only one device has been unpaired… I will tell you.

Thanks.

One user has said the European OSRAM plug does work as a repeater with Xiaomi / Aqara devices.

Had problems with door sensors dropping off, reporting wrong states multiply times and other irritating things.
I have been using Xiaomi devices two years and last week I finally decided to replace my most important door sensors with z wave sensors.
What a joy it is now!
They stay connected and they can handle rapid changes in sensor state. I also noticed that they are local devices.

Im still using a lot of Xiaomi devices. Actually yesterday I installed one Xiaomi open close sensor and two motion sensors. They work quite good if they are near st hub and connected straight to hub without repeaters. And if it is not so important if sensor does not always report correctly or drops occationally off yhen they are just fine. My opinion still is that they are not reliable for example security purposes etc.

Im thinking about moving towards z wave devices in future and at some point getting rid of Xiaomi devices. I have also noticed issues with st’s zigbee net, hue zigbee light net and Google wifi mesh. That is The main reason why Im going towards z wave devices.

One more thing about xiaomis. They are so cheap and work that you developers have done is tremendous. Im really happy that I still can use them though.

With the right repeaters they work flawlessly too… IKEA’s smart bulbs and outlets do a great job repeating and creates a strong Zigbee mesh…

You will experience the same flaws with a Z-wave mesh, if your repeaters aren’t good - but for 2x - 4x the price…

I have a different experience. None of my devices (zwave or zigbee) drops off except Xiaomi sensors. I never got those work flawlessly and I am using Ikea bulb repeaters too. These Xiaomi devices are different than other zigbee devices. These are sleepy ones and I guess that’s why there’s issues.

Are there two types of Device handlers, one for the original motion sensor and one for the aqara motion sensor?

The issues are not because Xiaomi / Aqara devices are sleepy devices. It is because they do not follow ZigBee standards 100%. Even the Xiaomi / Aqara marketing materials states that a Xiaomi / Aqara Hub is required.

There are very specific things that can be done to get Xiaomi / Aqara devices working acceptably with a SmartThings Hub (and other home automation hubs as well), but some users still have issues. Personally, I don’t have issues with my Xiaomi / Aqara devices frequently dropping their connection, but I think it’s important for people to understand that if they decide to try using Xiaomi / Aqara devices, they are not guaranteed to work with a SmartThings Hub.

TL;DR: Your mileage may vary (YMMV), and buyer beware (caveat emptor).

Yes. The Aqara device handler also includes the illuminance capability, because that sensor sends lux light readings any time motion is detected.

Thank you very much

Im not seeing anything. I see a battry check then nothing else

Im not seeing anything. I see a battry check then nothing else

So you see a battery report about every hour or just once and then nothing?

I would also recommend looking at the past events list, found in the “Recently” tab for each device as viewed in the mobile app:

If you only see battery report events in the “Recently” past events list, then my guess is that there is/are a/some ZigBee repeaters connected to your SmartThings Hub which are incompatible with Xiaomi / Aqara devices.

Actually, it’s the Xiaomi / Aqara devices which are incompatible with most ZigBee repeaters. ZigBee repeater devices are most AC-powered ZigBee devices, with the exception of some smart bulbs such as Singled bulbs. Repeaters are normally helpful , because they extend the range and reliability of a ZigBee network, but unfortunately Xiaomi / Aqara devices don’t follow the ZigBee standards 100%, and there are issues as a result: either the Xiaomi / Aqara devices drop off the network or in some cases some of their messages aren’t passed on to the hub by the repeater.

If you are seeing only battery level reports, and not open/close events or temperature/humidity events, then that matches the second kind of issue I explain above.

Hi, I am using the Xiaomi Aqara Temperature Humidity Sensor with (I believe) the latest DH but the temperature does not show in the main tile on the Smartthings new app, I have a colleague who has the same devices with the same DH but he does have a temp showing on the tile, I have been through everything I can think of but cannot get the temp (or anything else) to show on the tile, works fine on the classic app though!
Any ideas anyone?

With regards to support for the new Samsung Connect mobile app, here’s my reply:

I’m afraid I can’t explain why your colleague is able to see the temperature displayed while you aren’t.

Honestly after trying out the new mobile app once, I haven’t used it again as it does not consistently work with devices that have custom device handlers, and for those that it does work, many features are not working at all (such as preference settings.)

Ok, thanks for the reply, I thought I may be missing something basic! I tend to use the classic app or sharptools for most things but keep checking back with the new app as it does seem to be improving.

i use Zigbee outlet with device handler v1.2
i have a problem that all of my outlets does not recognise that i have turn on the outlet from device and not from the app
so if i go to the app shows that is off… but if i tap the refresh button shows correctly that is on
thats mean that my pistons of webcore does not run if not see that the outlet is on

any help with that?
showing power of outlet working nice with out refresh…
