So there must be going something wrong with Google Home (USA) trying to communicate with Samsung Smarthub (UK) altho Lars from Smartthings assured me that this was not an issue.
So - to reiterate : I’m able to Authorize the Tradfri from Google Home (thu Chrome opening up) , but once back in the Google Home app I don’t get control over the Tradfri (my Samsung/Smartthings list shows 0 devices in GH App)
You have almost the same setup as i do, i have a Google Home from the states, SmartThings from UK and Trådfri bulbs from sweden and it works fine, i would unlink you account in the google home app, remove the Google SmartApp from the SmartThings app and start over
“Google Assistant” is the “old” smart app that was installed when you added home control to Google Assistant/Google Home.
It was replaced in August/September timeframe with “Google” and appears to be what has caused a lot of people issues. I went to the Samsung support page and had them remove it while I was chatting online. Then I had to unlink Smarthings, factory reset Google Home, clear data on the Google Home App, reinstall the Google Home(s) to the Google Home app See note, and then relink Smarthings in Google Home App.
Note, AFTER I did the factory reset, I had to go to “Devices” in the google home app and delete the “ghost instances” of the Google Home Devices under linked devices. This happened even though I named them the same names as before. Look at the bottom of the “devices” list (Google Home/Chromecast Devices not Home Automation devices). There will be a blue “Linked Devices” which when clicked on shows the ghost devices.
A thousand times yes.
I already thought this was causing my issue a long time ago (having “The Google Assistant” in stead of just “Google” as Smart App). I just had no clue on how to push for “Google” only.
I did a Factory reset on my main Google Home device (not on the Google Home Mini I have in my bedroom) and then linked Smartthings again thru the iOS app this time (it might work when I give it a try on Android now too, but I’m kinda not too keen on unlinking again and trying that out. I’m currently just sitting here talking to my light after so many hours wasted on this issue :))
So: in short. This is what fixed it:
Factory reset Google Home by pushing that big ol button on the “back” of the device for a couple seconds.
Relinking SmartThings / Samsung Connect after that thru my girlfriend’s iPhone and now my Tradfri finally finally showed up in my Virtual and Other devices. (mind you: it still says “0 devices” under Linked Services in the Google Home App under “Manage Accounts” > “Linked Services: SmartThings/SamsungConnect”
How to check if you are in the same boat as I was:
After linking SmartThings/SamsungConnect in GoogleHome go back to Smartthings App and click on your Tradfri light and go to it’s SmartApps tab. If you see “The Google Assistant” there , it means you are in the same boat. I have it working now and it says “No Installed SmartApps” on that tab currently.
When I click on “Automation” from the HP of Smartthings App it says “Google” under the SmartApps tab now.
If you are referring to the rgbw ones then probably no, they are so different that i dont think it makes no sense to have one handler for them all.
I might create another handler for those if i see a personal need for it and no current one solves it.
There is a handler for them already but i don’t have one so i don’t know how good it is, probably works great.
Just wanted to stop by and say thanks. I picked up two GU10-base lamps at Ikea dirt cheap - for $7.99 each. I used them in our master bathroom, where they are hooked to a dedicated switch and illuminate plants on a couple shelves – two mango samplings, a lychee sapling, and an orchid.
Now, I don’t have to turn the light on/off anymore. It’s done via CoRE at 5:40am and at 10:30pm. And the combined cost is lower than if I’d get a Z-Wave or Lutron Caseta switch!! They were identified as “Thing” in the ST discovery, but worked fine once I manually assigned the proper DHT. Turning on and off is reliable and instantaneous, and even dimming works flawlessly.
The only small drawback is the light output – even through they are rated for the same wattage as my old LED GU10s, they seem a little dimmer. Still good enough for my plants.
Hi there, so i have successfuly integrated several Tradfri white spectrum bulbs (GU10 and E27) with Smartthings using the ZLL white colour temperature bulb device type.
What would the tradfri device handler give me, over and above what im using currently?
It probably work but it’s pointless to use this dth since the 1000lm bulb is just a dimmable bulb, no color temperature. Just use the built-in dimmable lamp dth
Milomoly, the bulb will work with this device handler.
You must edit it in smartthings api like ZLL, to work.
With this device handler i succed to integrate with google home and alexa.
I’m stuck in with hue bridge.I can;t make the bridge to discover the bulb.
THX EDVALD FOR THE “APP”
If you’re referring to the on/off button and the top of the dth then it follows smartthings color theme, the green ones you might still have just haven’t been updated
So far everything works great for me with the E26 980 model. My only issue is that when I go to set up a scene the lowest setting I can use is 2700K and not the 2200K the bulb is capable of doing. Is there any way to change that?
Hmm, i have no idea why the scene setup only allows you to go to 2700k.
Either something needs to be added to the DTH to inform scene setup of the actual capabilities or it’s a limitation of the scene setup.
It might be a case of SmartThings just assuming(hardcoding) that all color temp bulbs are 2700k to 6500k, i’m leaning towards this as ZLL White Color Temperature Bulb 5000K also gets a slider with 2700-6500.
If anyone knows a way to solve it i would gladly add it to the DTH.
Thanks for the handler and instructions, I’ve added an E13 bulb (with the Ikea steering wheel dimmer) and it all works great. I bought four of the new GU10 bulbs (without colour temp)- but Smartthings just picks it up as ‘Thing’ with the generic Smartthings logo, I’m guessing the device handler doesn’t support the new GU10
The reason it shows up s a “thing” is because no DTH explicitly says it can control it but you can manually assign it any DTH on the smartthings site, https://graph.api.smartthings.com i would suggest picking the zigbee dimmer or zll dimmer bulb as they handle plain dimmable bulbs
