Great and from your post above it sounds like you said it was working in the morning (I was going to suggest check the firewall in your office) but wasn’t in the afternoon. See the link I posted about how it works and it’s sensitivity to network delays etc. Also give your camera a reboot command using the ST camera device page, you’ll be surprised how many connection issues that has fixed for folks in the past. We always recommend reboot the router/camera to start with, as you said the ST video tile is still in not a release version and do send in your comments to ST support so they can prioritize getting a release version out there. I don’t think they’re very far away.
Here is my camera config
It seems to only work on my home network. I turn off WiFi and it stops working
I’m assuming you’ve entered your PUBLIC IP address and not your local LAN IP in your ST device settings for it to work from outside the house.
That is correct. I think a lot of the issues are the network id keeps changimg. I change it to 2000 and ST changes to 48e407d3:22ba
Please DO NOT change the network Id. This is the root cause behind your problems. The device handler will set the appropriate Network Id at run time. The 2000 is only to get the device handler installed (since ST requires some value). This value is used by ST to identify and communicate with the device, if you change this, ST has no idea how to communicate with the camera and all communication will stop. You should ONLY edit settings available using the Device Preferences page through the ST app after installation.
I have updated the guide above to include this point.
I’ll try setting up the port forwarding. However, I am currently not getting any logging in smartthings besides the smartapp trying to poll for motion. I’m stillnot sure even my local IP is correct. I’ve taken the IP of the camera from the foscam web app. Is this the correct ip?
Go through this post, if you don’t see a response from the camera your hub can’t reach your camera or the configuration is wrong.
Would it be possible to make this work for the Dericam S1? I have no real need for streaming video, but the motion and record would be awesome.
So I think the issue I’m having is that the IP’s for my cameras are being assigned by the wireless hub. These are not ethernet cameras I am using, they are connected wirelessly to the Foscam base. I know I keep asking but I’m still confused. The IP’s I can find relating to the Foscams are as follows:
192.168.0.11:88 is the Foscam Login IP
192.168.0.15 is what the Foscam control site lists for SNH-P6410BN
172.216.0.6 is an example of a camera IP.
I’ve modified these IP’s slightly so they don’t match my exact IP’s. Can someone please clarify which IP I need to be inputting? I assume it’s the 172.216.0.6 IP with Port 88, however these don’t show up on my router unless I’m missing something which is very possible. To me, these instructions are written for IP direct Ethernet cameras. I am using the Foscam FN3104W set with 4x FI 9800W cameras.
Ideally you should assign your Foscam camera a static IP and that’s the IP you should be using to configure in your ST device page.
I see that you have multiple networks 192.x and 172.x - probably a recipe for disaster unless you know what you’re doing. You hub should be able to reach the camera and vice versa, check your routines and run through the check list here to ensure everything is accessible and nothing is blocking or firewalled etc. If they are configured right it’ll just “work”.
Okay so I’ve assigned the foscam base station a static IP. Each camera is being given an IP by the hub itself and I don’t see those on my router. Am I missing a step here or some sort of way to configure them so the router is actually seeing each device. if these were directly wired to my network I don’t think I’d have all these issues but I’m just not understanding something about how they work when it’s wireless to the base station and then ethernet to the router
I spoke with a friend who’s far better at networking than I am and I understand better now what I need to do to get this working. However, I’m not sure how to assign an IP to my cameras through the Foscam interface. The IP line on the device settings is greyed out and is using subnet 172 instead of 192. Do you or anyone else know how to assign the IP manually? I can change the IP of the foscam base station but not each camera. Even if I can only change the subnet I could probably make that work.
You can use the IP assigned to the camera (doesn’t have to be static, but static helps incase the IP address changes after you reboot the camera or the router/dhcp server).
2 options:
- If you’re using DHCP you can get your camera MAC address and get your router/dhcp server to dish our a static ip address to that MAC (router/dhcp settings)
- Camera itself, here’s a screenshot (your model may vary)
Okay so I’m in my Foscam software and I’m under settings. I’m looking at IP camera setup and the option to alter my IP is greyed out as seen below.
I’ve looked through the basic settings under network and this is what I can alter
Any ideas what I’m doing wrong? I’ve tried to update the firmware. I am running these settings:
I was able to get my camera connected and streaming through the smart things app but I can’t seem to get the motion alert feature to work. I have the app installed and everything and the tile for the motion says it’s off and won’t let me turn it on.
That indicates a configuration problem, the hub can’t reach the camera or vice versa. See the troubleshooting steps.
@RBoy
Any ideas?
I never use the foscam setup tool, always do it manually. You second screen appears to be where you set your IP address for your camera. Don’t know what you’re using the first screen tool for. In any case it looks like the first screen has a whole different IP subnet from the second screen.
This is classic networking stuff, I would recommend get hold of a friend/professional who’s familiar with networking setup and have him come and setup your networking. I don’t see any good reason to have two LAN’s within a single house.
I know what the problem is but I can’t find where to change the subnet. My network does not see the cameras as they’re on a separate subnet. If I change my network to the same subnet to see them would that allow me to assign them a new IP? I tried to do it by assigning a new IP to the Mac address but to no avail.
Where did you get the 172.216.0.5 & 4 addresses from? Those belong to Verizon and have real routes to them.
