[OBSOLETE] Foscam Camera Device Handler Universal DTH with Motion Detection - SD (FI89xx), HD Ambarella FI98xx, FI99xx, Cx, Gx, Rx, Ex, Zx, Fosbaby

Have you seen @Mike_Maxwell Zone Motion Manager. It might help however I am not sure what speeds you would get on your network for changes of the camera for triggering and other factors like position in the event that is needed plus more. But might be something to try.

EDIT: And I can see pre-triggering with predefined zones the are predicting motion based on one motion sensor but that might create a lot of false alarms. Not sure if there is a way around that.

Thanks for the suggestion @pmusselman. One thing I like about the Foscam built-in motion triggered recording is the pre-recording feature. With that extra 5 seconds before the motion was detected, I can always see the complete picture of the whole event; rather than starting from the time when the event has already taken place. And that was the reason why I prefer this device handler over others

Hmm that’s odd, I’m using a static ip on all my cameras. Live view is a direct connection between the phone and the camera, wondering if the issues is between your phone not being able to access the static IP address (take picture/etc all other commands go through the hub).

As I said, I can set up as static IP as long as that was the same IP originally assigned by DHCP. If I change it to another static IP of my choice, the camera live streaming will still work in everywhere else (e.g. in Foscam web app, Foscam android app) except in the ST device handler. Like you mentioned, the take picture and other commands still work in ST in that situation. This exact same odd behavior happens on my 9821 as well (not just the R2) using the device handler.

Not really a big deal for me as I could just use the DHCP IP as my static; but I just curious why it happens

Maybe I’m missing something, but when my cameras are taking a snapshot, where is that file being stored? It is showing up on the device page, but its unclear to me where it is being saved on my device (if it is at all). I’d like to capture that snapshot and upload it to dropbox or google photos, but I haven’t been able to figure out where it goes.

It’s stored on the ST Amazon server. If you click on the image tile it will show the picture and then there should a button to save it to your phone. That’s a phone specific ST implementation, the DH can’t control it.

Is there a way to have the camera also send pictures (like from motion triggered events) to the device’s storage location? In my case, prior to having the device handler setup, the snapshots would upload to a FTP server I had setup in the cameras device config, but it does not appear to use that when taking the snapshot on a motion triggered event, or even when I use the take picture button.

No, ST is a closed environment and there’s no current way to send image outside it. I’m working on an eMail option but it’s not ready for public release yet.

Does this work with the Foscam C1?

Yes, see the first post.

Ah thanks. That’s a darn fast reply! This is sweeeeeeet.

@reacean, when I have motion triggered recordings (video + picture) from the camera (not from a standalone motion sensor), those will be uploaded to the ftp server just like before I had the device handler setup. Are you saying you observe different behavior? Have you checked the camera’s web UI to make sure the ftp and the motion detection settings have not been modified since the device handler was installed?

###Foscam Camera Universal Device Handler - version 3.2.4

  • < no change >

###Foscam Motion Alarm Monitor SmartApp - version 2.6.2

  • Minor correction to name of SHM state, it should say “Disarm” instead of “Off” in the input options

@kamy I’m seeing those settings reset at some point throughout the course of the day, either when the motion alarm enables when I leave, or disables when I return. They also don’t reliably disarm when I return, even when SHM does, so I’m not sure what’s going on there.

Live streaming also not working for me on my iPhone 4s. I have 3 x FI9805E and 1 x FI9826P. Have not yet tried with the FI9826P. Even tried over my LAN, but no luck.

The RTSP port should be the same has the HHTP port right?

Regards: Elliott

EDIT: I solved my problem by deleting the camera from “My Devices” from the online dashboard and then re-adding it. All is now well and I can live stream from all 4 of my IP cameras.

i have a foscam C1 and i have tried everything and can’t get it to work. the device keeps saying camera “cannot be found. We are trying to connect”.

I’m having the same problem did you manage to get yours to work?

Unfortunately, I did not. I ended up selling the camera and replacing with another Blink. Good luck!

@RBoy, just installed Foscam apps and they will connect from lan as long as my phone is also similarly connected. However, it stops working on cellular. Is port forwarding required for foscam and st when the phone is connecting over Internet? Also, even when connected over Lan, pan/tilt doesn’t seem to work. Is this a know issue?

Yes as mentioned in the first post, the phone needs a direct connection to the camera. So if you’re using it off LAN make sure it has a way to reach the Camera, port forward or VPN etc.
