[OBSOLETE] Device Monitor - Get Notified if Devices Stop Reporting

Yeah, if an app can start sending location events with a relevant event name and value, I have no problem adding that to CoRE. Maybe I will come up with a little framework. Give me 5 minutes (kidding)

Yes, I do love the web interface it’s a.freaking.mazing.

The way I use it is have it notify me if any battery drops below 25% or any device goes past 20 days.

I keep an eye on the web interface for the same and wake up minimotes I don’t use often when the deadline approaches as they don’t seem to wake up on their own. It’s been perfect for keeping track of 100+ devices and their batteries to make sure they don’t fall off the system unknownst to me…

Thanks for the input everyone.

Small update to allow a ā€œreminderā€ notification to be sent at a certain time each day. There is also now an option in exclusions to exclude certain devices from the reminders.

I made some underlying changes to the app that if you update to this version, you will get some repeat notifications on its first check. It should only happen once though, so just a heads up.

I was just thinking of this app…please see the updates to the documentation here: http://thingsthataresmart.wiki/index.php?title=Ask_Alexa#Advanced:Interfacing_With_Ask_Alexa.28version_2.1.3.2B.29

Ask Alexa will soon be able to take ā€˜messages’ and put them into a queue that will then alert the user when they do anything with Alexa. Unfortunately, Alexa can’t respond to events except for a voice prompt, so this is as close as we will be able to get to messages for now.

I think it would be cool since I have established a ā€˜standard’ for app communication that this be the first app that supports this feature.

Let me know.

Yeah, that would be great! Based on what you have documented, I believe I have updated Device Monitor to work with Ask Alexa. I don’t think I can test it yet as it looks like you are implementing the queue feature in a later version of Ask Alexa.

I can send you a beta version to test it.

Yeah, let’s do this.

Added some options for Ask Alexa. The message queue feature should be available soon from @MichaelS.

Nicely done!

It looks like this app actively pols the devices, adding unnecessary network traffic (or am I wrong on how this app works?). Many devices send updates on a regular basis. Instead of polling the device (adding extra traffic), shouldn’t it just look to see when the last status was?

If the device fails to send an update on it’s own after x amount of minutes, then send an notification or whatever.
For example, I have an Z-Wave outlet receptacle that updates ST with its status every 15 minutes. So if it goes over 30 minutes without sending an update, I know something is up and I’ve probably lost power.
ST and my modem and router are on battery backup, so even if I lose power, I could get a notification.

This app doesn’t do any ā€œpollingā€ or ā€œrefreshingā€. It only looks at a device’s existing events to determine whether it is active or not.

I just used the code from the top of the page and encountered this issue.

Hi - I have a few devices that report power utilization only, but I didn’t see an option for power/energy meters. In the plans for a future release?

Will this smart app allow me to choose a day of the week and send me a push/sms with the levels of all my battery devices?

Excuse my ignorance, love your app, could you tell me what the #s represent? Mins, Sec, Mili sec?
