*** No longer supported *** [RELEASE] Best Zoned Heating/Cooling smartapps

I am just getting starting to investigate what I need for adding smart vents to my HVAC system. I have been leaning toward flair since they are less expensive. What do these smartapps do that the flair app does not do?

Hi, please refer to the 1st post of this thread which explains all the features with links to the ST community wiki…

The Flair app can only use the Flair puck or the ecobee remote sensors to control the vents.

With my smartapps, you can leverage any ST connected temp/motion/contact sensors to control the vents…

On top of it, if you have the ecobee tstat, there is a tight integration with My ecobee device which allows you to adjust the setpoints & fan settings based on different indoor/outdoor conditions.

No other ecobee integration exposes so many features under SmartThings. And, you can use My virtual zone devices to control the vents & zones and get information about your zones in near real time.

I bought a few Keen vents during the Memorial Day sale and I wanted to say THANKS for your work on these device handlers and apps! I’ve got the vents tied to my Ecobee thermostat and sensors and they’ve been doing a great job keeping the room temperatures balanced.

I just received some Keen Smart Vents and I already have an Ecobee3 with some smart sensors setup. ST sees the Ecobee and Smart Sensors. I can even install a Keen vent natively, but there appears to be little I can do with it, aside set the vents manually.

Would I be using EcobeeSetZoneWithSchedule? or ScheduleRoomTempControl? The first mentions ‘with some optional smart vents’…

I’d be looking to set a temperature in each room and have the system open / close vents as needed.

Thanks!

Hi,

It looks like ScheduleRoomTempControl would be a better fit for your use case.

For more details, refer to the ST community wiki :

P. S. BTW, it’s recommended to use MyEcobee device with my zoning smartapps.

Hi,

Just want to inform my contributors that new major versions of ecobeeSetZoneWithSchedule(v9.0), ScheduleTstatZones (v9.0) & ScheduleRoomTempControl (v5.0) * can be downloaded at my e-commerce solution provider (sellfy) using the original download link.

  • If you’re a contributor and interested in the new major version (v3), let me know and I can directly send the code to you for beta testing the upgrade. All you need to do is to copy &paste the new code over the existing one for MyVirtualZone DTH (Device Handler Type) and the zonign smartapp.
  • You’d probably need to refresh the Samsung connect app’s cache in order to see the UI changes. There are some instructions to do so in the release notes.
  • The new UI presentation amongst others adds a custom capability (setZoneSetpoint see image below).

You can also refer to the 1st post of this thread for all the use cases supported.
