That’s exactly how I’ve done it. But you’re way with child devices should work too I’ve just never done it that way. I believe you will have to create two separate handlers ( one parent one child) though and both will need to report the supported button values as a JSON object. When the values are reported they show in the device settings in the IDE like the screenshot in this linked post.
