Actually the problem was not with deleting and reinstalling the app. It fixed it this time because that particular bug was fixed.
Following the directions provided is extremely important.
We can not help if you do not answer the questions we all and if you do not follow the directions as written.
not to muddy the waters here. but i didnāt have to use alexa helper to get my garage working. is it because i just set up an open and close routine?
Well, if you go back to the beginning of this thread, I told you then you didnāt have to use Alexa helper. You were told you had a choice. You actually donāt even need the two routines you setup.
I took about 20 minutes and tired out the exact steps you needed to take to make it work without routines and without Alexa helper.
So, just done friendly adviceā¦
If you are going to ask for help, actually read and follow the directions that were given to you.
You were being fused by two people that are very knowledgeable of the system. The other guy helping you, he is the one that wrote Alexa helper.
Just saying,a lot is done here because we want to help. But patience only goes so far.

Guys thanks for all your help. I have it working now. The delete/re-add of app made the difference. Not sure why it would not show up. Once the helper app was available it was very easy to program.
Jason Iām interested in trying this without Alexa helper. Are you still planning to redo your write up?

I followed the steps the same way twice. Only after the removal and reinstall of the app did the Alexa helper show up. Sorry my comment didnāt live up to your standards. Yes I did read the instructions. You drilled it into my head. I said thanks because I truly do appreciate the responses and what I thought was patience. Not sure why on 2 occasions you got a little snippy and your last post was completely condescending. Sorry I even signed up to post. Iām out.

It is crap like this that makes those that have been down the road and figured it out just up and quite trying to help. If youāre out, than youāre out. But at least your door works. Iām glad the flying spaghetti monster fixed it for you.

did all of the above but alexa only responds when i say ON or OFF, when i say Open or Close it says āIm not sure how to help you with thatā Any ideas as to what might be wrong?
Are you using the custom device handler for your door opener?
just alexa switch device handler as far as i know and can see. im not sure how to add custom device handler after completing your steps. i got it to work thru IFTTT using switch created with your steps. I can do Alexa, Trigger Open Garage and Close Garage. would love to know how to do this custom device handler. i read about it but im confused how it works with your steps

DT1) Copy the code from the author. where do i copy code from? thats where iām confused. Like i installed other custom device handlers for other things, but code was given or github repository.
