I had posted my problem getting the sensor to work.

I just bought a Phillips Hue outdoor motion sensor. I first added to the SmartThings app, when I go into the Alexa app, it detected and added the sensor “Hue Motion Sensor”. I added a simple routine. its setting is as followed:

when: Hue Motion Sensor detects motion

Everyday 12:00 AM to 11:59 PM

Action:

  • Play dog bark
  • Say “there is motion at the front door”

So i can see the motion when i view the device (but the routine won’t start) and I can manually play the routine, but i can’t get it working automatically/together. What did i miss? many thanks!

it appears routines are broken again. Even supported motion sensors are no longer working today.

The latest routine issue has been diagnosed and fixed. If you are having issues with routines not triggering, please run “Alexa, discover my devices” which should resolve the issue immediately. If not, the problem should resolve itself next time Alexa runs a silent discovery in the background which happens automatically every 12h.

This same issue happened to me this morning. I was able to resolve the issue:

I found that I was running both the old and new Smartthings skill within Alexa. All I did to get my routines to work again was disable both new and old Smartthings skills. Then enabled just the new Smartthings skill and logged in, this then reconnected all my devices to Alexa and the routines started working again.

Hope that helps others that have had this same issue as I. Very frustrating, but it’s working again, yay!

@Lars thank you! I’d tried that a few times before with no success, but now that SmartThings/Amazon diagnosed and resolved, I did it again and everything’s working again for me now.

Thank you also! I did ask Alexa to discover my devices, which it said there was no new devices, but the motion detection works now!

Just FYI guys
My routine with Alexa Simulated switches stoped working after installing Smarttings Classic app on my iphone
I had to remove my classic app, Disable Smartthings skill and reenable it, run discover on devices and my routine start working again

It appears the Alexa routines are not triggering via smarthings contact sensor’s again.

Yes same here. I noticed this the other day. Seems like sometimes it works & sometimes it doesnt.

I’ve received several emails from SmartThings that they are preforming Platform Maintenance.

All of my motion sensors, multipurpose sensors, and Virtual Alexa switches have again stopped working so my Alexa Routines are not triggering by SmartThings anymore. I see the motion/multipurpose sensors and Alexa Virtual switch change states in Alexa, but the Motion or Open/Close feature isn’t triggering the Alexa Routines at all.

UPDATE:

I contacted support, and their response was to remove the Alexa connected service and reconnect it. Well, that didn’t fix anything.

I also contacted Amazon Alexa support which is totally worthless if you ask me since they didn’t do anything.

disabled and reenabled the skill, nothing changed
sensor changes can be seen on the device page but dont trigger announcement routines

After the SmartThings alert today, whatever they did to resolve it may have also fixed my SmartThings - Alexa issue since all of my Alexa Routines that are triggered from SmartThings motion and open/close sensors (virtual too) are now working.

Has anything been fixed with excluding devices from Alexa?

My list of devices in Alexa is such a mess it’s becoming unbearable, there’s about 300 devices due to duplication and SmartThings has wrecked the Alexa app. I’m not sure how Amazon hasnt banned the SmartThings skill.
