Hi @Anseld1986, Lowe’s in Cary on Walnut Street had 2 of the new outlets on the shelf on Tuesday. They also had a healthy supply of the current on/off switches. That store seems to keep stuff in stock better than others, including new stuff showing up all the time. I also saw 1 new outlet at the Clayton Lowe’s on Cleveland Crossing Drive (40/42 exit).
It looks like these new switches require a neutral, which wasn’t the case with the older version… Is this only if you plan on using LED/CFL bulbs or with the switches not operate without the neutral wire?
Neutral Wire is true, found out the hard way with the 456xx dimmer, hummed bad with LED bulbs. Called it in and they said must use the 127xx with the neutral; the new version is good with any type bulb. Installed 127xx and works solid…
guys is it just me or does it seem like the new ge dimmers now offer zwave association like the linear/evolve dimmers for wireless 3,4,5 way switches without the need for the traveler wire? Can someone confirm this?
It’s been a while since I looked at the documentation, but association has always been there for all GE switches, it’s just ST doesn’t make it easy to do like other HA controllers. You still need the traveler wire for 3,4 and 5 way switches.
This does not sound correct, I have 456xx and 127xx and neither seemed to perform that way during setup. I hooked all the electrical up and was hitting the Aux (3-Way) switch to associate and it wouldn’t work, then tried to reset it to default with a 45600, still failed; then I realized I was on the Aux, went over to the main switch and it associated immediately.
Not sure how it could ever associate without the travelers, cause all they do is remotely toggle the main, from what I can tell the Aux is simply a toggle switch (no electronics or tx/rx capability), that’s why it’s so cheap…
makes sense. Then in my situation I like the linear zwave aux and main switches because with a little help from aeon minimote you can create 3,4,5 way without need for traveler wires. However, if these work well with led bulbs(aka have a neutral) I may be interested in using these for a 5 way switch setup I have on my stairway since all of them have traveler wires, and it may be cheaper to do this than 4 linear zwave aux switches.
also wondering if each ge aux switch has zwave chip in itself that needs pairing to ST like the linear/evolve switches, or does the ge aux switch just recieve/send signals from/to main switch via the traveler wire?

I thought i saw that GE pays some money for instant status because lutron holds patent, and linear and other switches do a workaround, however I found linear switches very reliable. There is discussion about the possiblity that GE switches respond slightly faster than linear/ evolve dimmers and if so i can’t see it cause I just tested my GE outlet and my linear on/off and both responded quick and status changed really quick.
Does the newer version of the on off switch make the clicking sound when turning off or on like the older version?
YES on the 127xx…
I had Leviton, Lutron and GE and tested each. The GE 456xx out performed both for options (LED) and reporting speed, and beat both on price. GE don’t advertise “Instant Status”, but on ST & Wink they ran 100% reporting, not sure if it’s a workaround, but I have many and they all are right on. I recent got a GE 127xx dimmer and it reported perfect on ST too. The 127xx seems like a duplicate of the 456xx line of device, except they include multiple rocker cover (colors) and new packaging that markets them good for all systems…

@tenzingsherpa, aux switches don’t get included to ST and don’t have zwave chips. All the aux switch does is trigger the main switch via the traveler wire.
The 127xx dimmer has a click to it, so I assume the switches will too.

@johnconstantelo I hear ya I see that the new and old GE aux switch doesn’t get included in ST and don’t have zwave chips. Just wondering since linear/evolve aux switches can be included to ST. Thanks
Hmm I about to install some switches in my new home but I’m a bit confused. I have a 4 way light setup in one hall (2 lights 3 switches) but I have the older GE 45613 3-way dimmer switch kit and the 45609 on/off switches.
Can I just add one 12723 Aux switch to the 45613 setup and be good to go?

@santiagodraco you should be able to but do realize that the new GE switches were made for LED bulbs. W/o the neutral connection if your using LED bulbs they could start to flicker.
