The Arlo Pro add on cameras are down to $135 on Amazon.
Yea~I think the pros are a large improvement, but the price is a bit steep. That being said their ease of use for me is what makes it worth it so far. While I agree that you can certainly do more with PoE wired cameras and Blue Iris, the barriers are significant; having to run wires, having to setup yet another server, having to provide my own storage, dealing with failures…etc. Normally I am all about DIY solutions, but for whatever reason I have no desire to do it in this particular instance. I think the Pro’s and eventually the Arlo Q will be perfect for me.
Something else to consider regarding the IR nightvision stuff is those new bulbs that have IR built into them, they are pretty impressive although also not cheap.
The server for PoE is kind of a pain, but I have a spare computer that is always on already any way. It really just comes down to each person’s use case. I love the ease of the Blink and Arlo cameras, but the no recording while live veiwing is a non starter for us.
And the new IR lights are crazy cool.
and the blue recording light
A neat little trick. Take some white correction liquid and put a drop of it on the blue LED. Let it dry and then put a second drop on top. Viola no blue light ![]()
I opened my Blinks up and just put electrical tape over the LED right on the board. Took about 15 min to do all 5 cameras and it’s easy to undo.
