Hi all, quick update/question on iPhones.
I want to add family members…do I need to install the app on every phone then add that phone as a “thing”, then delete the app so they can’t access the hub??
Surely ST can just find phones when asked to look for new devices, but doesn’t seem to do this at present? Please help.
All I want to do is use family phones as presence sensors
Apple does not allow iPhones to be tracked by location without having an approved app on each specific phone give its permission for that. So there’s no way to just automatically have it happen.
If you don’t want to put the SmartThings app on each phone, there are some alternatives:
Presence, regardless of the device you use, is one of those features that works great for some people, not at all for other people, and is randomly flaky for still others.
It’s very much affected by local conditions. So some people will find that phone presence works much better than the SmartThings-branded presence sensor. Other people will find the reverse. Still other people, myself included, find that they have to use a combination of two devices in order to get reliable presence indication.
So if this feature tends to work differently for different people, where do you start?
1. Using a Smart Phone as a Presence Indicator
Well, since most people who have SmartThings have a smart phone, it’s worth starting there.
This method has changed significantly in the change fro…
Quick question/problem…Ive downloaded life360, but somehow there doesn’t seem to be a way to connect it to Smarthings anymore? All of the online/youtube info shows a previous App version but now its not there?
V Frustrating again!!
Look in marketplace–>smartapps–>social. You’ll see the Life360 connect app.
Im looking (on iphone App) but still cant see it…Maybe Im going wrong somewere?
Im in marketplace, but theres no “social” section?
Thanks, the problem Im having is finding the “social” bit in marketplace??
Are you in the US or the UK?
iOS or android?
Open the SmartThings mobile app
Select the “market place” icon at the bottom of the screen. It’s supposed to look like a market store with an awning, but to me it looks like a muffin.
Select “smartapps” at the top right of the screen
Scroll down and select “social”
Scroll down and select the life 360 option.
If it’s not there, contact support.
Im in the UK on IOS…the app looks different, can I still access it??
Sorry, I don’t know. You should be able to ask support in the UK.
I’m in UK and it is not in the smartapps.
Have a read of this.
It works for me.
just a quick note for any like me who wanted to use life360 (connect) in the UK, but was getting an Access Denied Error
I got this working by copying the source for the device type and creating a new device type from code
Life 360 User
and creating a smartapp in the IDE from code
Life 360 Connect
I enabled OAuth in the App under SmartApp Settings
and entered my username in the clientId field, my password in the Client Secret field
and entered https://graph-eu01-euwest1.api.smartthings.com in the Server URL field.
I then chose in the Mobile app to add the Life 360 Connect from the My Apps section and then entered my Username and password again and this time the pairing succeded and i can use life 360 for presence which works so much better and reliable than the smartthings app …
in brief (and for a beginner), how do I “Copy” source code for device type and create a smartapp? Or is this quite complicated?
Surely this should just be readily available in the smartapps??
In the ide, go to my smartapps.
Then click on the green button, + new smartapp.
In the new window, click on the ‘code’ tab.
Copy in the code and then click on create at the bottom.
Now click on save, then publish, then for me.
It will now be in the Marketplace, Smartapps, MyApps in the ST app of your phone.
You can do s search for how to create device handlers and smartapps.
It is easily available, in the US. Apparently it’s not intended to be used in the UK? But this is a workaround that someone discovered.
