Manual switch on Aeotec heavy duty gen 5, ZW078

I firmly believe that all smart switches need a manual switch where possible as smart systems always play up for one reason or another from time to time.

I discovered today that the action button (dangerously placed right beside up to 40a live wires so be careful when pairing) also works as an on off switch but is covered up for safety/so this item can recirve its IP rating.

I had this a year on my sauna and twice could not use for a couple nights while I worked out connection issues.

I am thinking of drilling a hole in the cover, right over where the switch is so it can be accessed.
Now this is dangerous as wet hands or rain on 40a power is dangerous/possibly life threatening, thinking of the following safety precautions,

  1. putting a rubber button cover and sealing it very well with high grade sealant.
  2. mounting high on the wall under an eave
  3. adding an additional small cover/eave right above it covering it say 50% of the way down, to ensure it stays dry

to create a manual switch which this item so badly needs.

When a non working smart switch stops you using an item 4 days a year, even 1 day a year, it’s a failure despite handy benefits when it’s working.

Any changes will void IP rating and so insurance - 40a rating is a dangerous amount to take risks with…
