Make Alexa wake up and say something?

Fine, y’all are no fun… lol

Yes, I’m working on it. I just wanted to make sure that there are still interested folks.
The advancements Amazon has made to Alexa is one of the reasons we shelved Echosistant.
There really was no point in it since Alexa could do 80% of it anyway…

Alexa just keeps on evolving. Glad I invested heavily in Alexa devices. Last I counted I was up to 20 something…

Speaking of Alexa, Amazon is up to something, again…

I wonder if OP is doing something similar to this

Hmmm. Contact and Motion Sensors. This is getting interesting…

I LOVE the cast feature. It is very hard to keep up with the weird wifi names for the Echo devices. Love being able to now just cast to the common names. Still messes up the music groups but getting there.

Yes, I do use “Headphones” for some of my Tablets to speak to Alexa.

Would LOVE the ability to just push notifications directly to Alexa enabled devices. This would cut out the middle man connections and be able to have more freedom with groupings.

Wow! Contacts and motion sensors could be huge. Will they allow routines to be triggered by them? Integrate asking for status? Tried asking for status with several phrases and only got “doesn’t support that”.

You didn’t try hard enough. Try temperature…

interesting! is that all you’ve found to work as far as status goes?

So I could not resist a little testing.

This actually works - I am able to trigger tts directly on my alexa through my pi.

With Home Assistant or SmartThings?

Currently only with my pi. No HA here. This can be easily adapted to smartthings I think though.

I am going to try and get something basic going on hubitat with telnet today.

With smartthings

The Smart Home Skills developer (Wink, SmartThings, WeMo, etc) has to enable state reporting in their skill before Alexa can use it. It’s up to each developer exactly which states they enable for which devices.

Amazon develooer docs on state reporting:

webCoRE?

Currently, I use the “Speak” command in webCoRE to trigger a Lannouncer enabled tablet connected Bluetooth to an Echo device.

How or can this show up in webCoRE to go straight to an Echo device? I do have a Pi that’s available to host the code.

There is a method using the pi, but you need to get opens up and running.

While the direct method is in work, I am using openHab to control my ST connected devices. So when a door opens in ST, openHab sees it and has the echo make the announcement.

Would you be willing to share this method? I’m in the midst of running wire in a very hot attic so I can hook up the whole home audio system for music/announcements. I wouldn’t be doing it if Alexa were capable of TTS notifications.

You would need a Raspberry pi to run as your openHab server.

I have eight or nine not being actively used at this time.
