Looking for Air Quality Sensor and Air Purifier

Lmao well lesson learned I guess. I just tried to cancel and it says it’s too late but it’s listed as free return on eBay so maybe I can return it once it comes in. Or I don’t know if it would be better to contact the seller since he hasnt even gotten a shipping level and see if he will let me out of it. I’m not sure how eBay returns work idk

I’m a couple of days late but wanted to let you know that I think there might be a driver for the Aqara air quality sensor. Starting at page 34 of this thread:

I tried searching for it, but it seems that this particular model isn’t available here in Thailand, so I’m sorry I cannot provide you with any pointers.

I got the plasmapro canceled so now I’m looking at another one. I was looking at the vital 100s or 200s but I noticed the comparison chart you posted only lists the 100 and 200s not the 100s. We do have a small dog who doesn’t shed much so I don’t know if the pet mode would be all that helpful. The only difference I’ve been able to find between the vital and the core 400s is the 400s works for large rooms and the vital has the pet mode but the vital is a bit cheaper

We have a large furry dog (golden retriever mix) who sheds all the time, but we’ve never used the specialty pet filter. Just the regular HEPA filter seems fine in both the 300 S in the 400 S.

The main difference with the levoit pet filter is that it has more carbon, so it does a better job of removing the ammonia smell you get from cat litter boxes. But odors aren’t a real issue with my dog, so I never felt the need for the filter upgrade.

I’m not very familiar with the vital series, I’ve only used the core.

I went with the vital 100s because it seemed like it has all the same features just the added pet mode which I believe can be turned on and off but I’m not positive on that, and because I found a black model that was still cheaper than the core 400s. I hope it works out well. I’m already regretting buying the core 200s now that you pointed out it doesn’t have the auto mode because I read the auto mode will shut off the display lights when it senses the room lights are turned off and the 200s will be the one in the bedroom where that would be more handy.

How is the Alexa integration by the way? Is simply just on and off?

Also I won a bid on the awair element air quality monitor and got it pretty cheap. It’s listed as awair element but the picture has a wooden cover so I think it might be awair 2nd edition? I’ve had trouble finding out the difference and there was no model number listed so idk. I’m just hoping it has decent Alexa integration.

As always, the first rule of home automation applies. “The model number matters.” The company can tell you what voice commands are currently available for a specific model.

At the time of this posting, this is what was available to me in the United States

Core 400s

The core 300 S doesn’t have turbo mode, but it does have a nightlight you can turn on and off by voice.

Okay cool it looks like the integration might be better than I expected. Thank you!

I have a side question about the community post categiries, I just want to make sure I’m posting in the correct category. If I had a question about whether a certain device could be used to do a specific automation would that be the “smart app and automations/automation ideas” category or “devices and integration” or would it be under the wiki category and if so which one? Like I’d be asking “if I got X device would I be able to set up an automation where it does Y”

Probably Under automation ideas. Maybe under devices if it’s really device feature specific.

The ones for the wiki are “projects“ where there’s typically a combination of device selection and automation, Usually beyond just a specific individual routine. Also, budget is often a factor in projects. So we tend to use projects for questions where the answer might be different for different people, as opposed to devices and automations, where the answer is usually the same once we get the details of the question. But there’s no hard and fast rules, it really just comes down to what will be easier for future forum readers to find and follow. :sunglasses:

Awesome thank you

@JDRoberts i was looking at the levoit air purifier & for the ones the work with alexa, would i create the virtual switch is smartthings turn on based on the settings?

As it turned out years ago, my $400 air purifier with the logo of a German company is actually a rebranded Tuya device…

So I had to create two scenes in the SmartLife/Tuya app for on and off, connect SmartLife to SmartThings, where I created a virtual switch and two routines:

If switch on → run scene “air purifier on”
If switch off → run scene “air purifier off”

@Andreas_Roedl do you know ifbthw air purifier from ilkea also works with smartthings? If not im guessing ill just do.a virtual switch for the lovoit. Would have been nice to have something integrate with smartthings directly. Btw im loving the ikea air sensor.

The IKEA air purifiers should work.

What you should look out for: HEPA 13, the Clean Air Delivery Rate (CADR) and most important: can you buy replacement filters now and in future! So parallel to finding the device itself, find the replacement filters.

It took me two weeks of intensive research to find filters and I had to create a developer account for Tuya…

There are Matter air purifiers out there and if the CADR is sufficient and if you can find replacement filters, get that.

For a small room, IKEA is an option.
