In the manual for the newer Leviton Z-Wave Plus devices there are some advanced features that are available. I understand that Smartthings cannot “play” with advanced features (future feature please?)
If i find another hub that can manipulate these settings, will they be persistent across a ZWave exclusion and re-inclusion?
Is there a hub that anyone can recommend? At this point i’m not looking to give up on Smartthings but these advanced features could make a big deal for my setup.
We need the exact model numbers of the devices that you have. There are a number of community members that enjoy creating custom device type handlers, and smartthings is unusual in that it Allows customers to add this kind of code to their accounts. And most members will share the code that they have. So you just have to look and see if someone has already created a device type handler which will expose the parameters that you were interested in.
Using custom code in SmartThings it’s pretty straightforward, basically you just copy the author’s code and paste it into your own account. Here’s the FAQ for that process:
Then the question is where do you find the code to copy? There are quick browse lists in the community – created wiki by device class. So in this case you would look in the device type handler section on the list for “lighting.”
Wow, Thanks for the quick response. I really thought I was making a shot in the dark and wasn’t sure i’d get any response at all, much less so quickly.
The switch is the Leviton DZ6HD, the dimmer version. I picked it up at Home Depot.
I’ll try your DTH, i think I’ve done this once before and I don’t recall it being difficult at all. The ‘advanced feature’ that I’m most interested in is the ‘Preset Light Level’. My understanding/hope is that I can set a light level that will turn on to a specific level every time the switch is manipulated. This is both a safety and convenience thing for my family.
Thanks again for your quick and comprehensive response @JDRoberts! I’ll let you know how it goes.
