Is MyQ Internet Gateway needed for Liftmaster 8500 and SmartThings control?

I just had two Liftmaster 8500 Elite Series garage door openers installed for me. They came with two 888LM MyQ Control Panels.

In order to control the 8500 with the SmartThings (v2) hub, what else do I need from Liftmaster? In other words, do I need the 828LM Internet Gateway and/or anything else?

Yes, you need the gateway, but it appears none of the current integrations are working right now due to SmartThings bugs.

I am also interested in controlling my liftmaster 8500 garage door from ST, have the integration problems been resolved?
