Does it work as a repeater too?
Hmm good question. I do not know how to check that.
I used to have these controlled by smartthings but they were a pain, kept dropping off the network, then I saw a thread that says you can add them to the Phillip’s hue hub so I did and now they are solid with any app such as hue disco, smartthings, alexa, core, webcore and they are fantastic now, very responsive.
Can anybody tell me what the latest firmware for the 5 button remote is? For the avoidance of any doubt, this thing…

Mine is showing up as 0x12214572 but I have no idea what the latest is, and no Ikea gateway to update…
Hi Jonas
How did you pair the power outlet to Smartthings?
/Mikael
There is a small pairing hole on the bottom of the outlet. I just pressed it for 5sec with a needle. Then it shows up as an unknown source. Log in to ide smartthings and change to zigbee power outlet
Hadn’t seen that - thanks, worked like a charm
Do you know of any specific Device Handler for the switch? I used the generic one, but of there is a specific one created I would rather use that.
I haven’t tested any other device handler. I’m nosure what the device could do rather then on and off and the zigbee power outlet does that.
I use my power outlet as a timer for some lamps together with smart lighting app.
I’ve spent three hours trying to pair the new Tradfri outlet to Smartthings and use the remote to control it at the same time but to no avail.
I can pair the outlet to ST and control it, I can pair the outlet to the small two button remote it came with but I can’t do both at the same time.
Has anyone managed to do this?
As in the outlet thread,
Probably, as with the bulbs, you’ll have to pair both the switch and the outlet with smartthings and then pair the switch with the outlet
try that.
Also posting the same question in 2 different threads probably isn’t the best idea.
I tried that, I reset both the outlet and the switch, I paired them both with ST but then the outlet won’t pair with the switch. I thought it would work like the bulbs and the puck but it doesn’t look like it does or I might be doing something wrong.
Hmm. I’m not sure then, and I can’t try it out because my local Ikea only has the outlets, not the kits. I’ve picked up a couple anyway and i’ll try pairing with a 5 button remote when I get a chance (the instructions with the outlet suggest that’s possible.
Thank you, please keep me updated if you succeed.
If anyone else has any ideas I’m open for suggestions.
I can’t use the Ikea Steering Remote to control the bulb after paired to Hub.
What I did
- Reseted all my devices and then removed them from the Hub.
- Did 1-9 (in SmartHomePrinter. post) for adding a “TRÅDFRI bulb E27 WS opal 980lm”
- Did 1-7 (in SmartHomePrinter. post) for pairing Ikea Steering Remote to the Hub (model: TRADFRI remote control). Appeared as “Thing”, can’t enter settings in Smarthings Classic but see all information is there on api.smarthings.com
- Paired Ikea Steering Remote to bulb.
- When I press the buttons on the Ikea Steering Remote nothing happens. I can control the bulb from the Smarthings App.
Please, could anyone give some guidance? Probably spent 10 hours in trying to fix this
Thanks for a good post!
Sounds like your pairing with the bulb was not sucessful. Reset of the remote is required.
- remove it from SmartThings
- Factory reset the remote
- Add the remote back to SmartThings
- With the bulb you want to control set to ON , hold the remote right next to the bulb base and press the pair button until the bulb begins and finishes pulsing per Ikea’s instructions.
Would it make sense to create and maintain an up to date tutorial and FAQ on getting Tradfri devices to work with ST? This is a useful but very long thread, and some of it seems obsolete. For instance, the latest ST app seems to have IKEA bulbs supported natively?
For example, some questions I have searched and not found answers to:
-
Is there a complete DH for the 5-button remote, or what is progress towards this? I want to be able to capture all events from the remote and specify custom actions in ST. Not just to control Tradfri lights.
-
Similar question for every Tradfri product.
Thanks, all!
Re the 5 button remote, no… so far it only seems to work connected directly to the bulb.
See post 459 in this thread for where we seem to be at with most things.
I may start working on a tutorial for various devices if there’s a demand for it…
I have just managed to pair a Tradfri outlet to my V2 hub in the UK, however I can’t switch it at all with the SmartThings app. I am using the Zigbee Switch Power device type. Any ideas anyone?
Did you try unplugging the Outlet after setting the DTH? I’m sorry I don’t have a ST hub anymore to verify this for you, but when I pair this with Hubitat and change to their generic Zigbee driver and save, I then use their configure button to send the device details to the outlet. However, I’ve found that it still doesn’t respond or responds in odd ways. I have to unplug it and then plug it back in. After that it works fine.
Oh and these are compatible repeater for Xiaomi and other Zigbee devices. Not strong signals, but they work and since their not expensive you can just get a bunch of them to compensate for their relatively weak signal strength. So even if you don’t have a working switch (which you should be able to get going), then you’ve got a good repeater for the wonderful little Xiaomi devices.
