So, after an evening of trying just about anything I’m about ready to accept that I somehow have a faulty 1000lm bulb. There’s absolutely no way to get it to go into pairing mode that I’ve found.
I’ve tried connecting the dimmer, disconnecting the dimmer, smart things hub sitting on top the bulb, different light fittings, plugged directly into the wall and into a multiblock…
Having already set up a 980lm spectrum bulb I’m pretty sure I know what I should be expecting to see after cycling on/off 6 times, and this bulb is having none of it.
Problem is I’m not sure I can go back to IKEA and say, “excuse me, this bulb is faulty because this unadvertised feature isn’t working!”
Resetting the bulb is not an undocumented feature… They have videos showing you how to do that. If you can still get it to pair with the remote, you’re probably out of luck - but last thought for you; have you tried a different light fitting to power the bulb?
I’m having to change the switch that is controlling mine, as the dimmer switch that is in place now isn’t allowing enough power through to allow the pairing properly, as it’s driving 6 lights and now making a buzzing sound
@jarm69. As I understand it, the remotes (dimmers) will work with any ZLL bulb or ZigBee 3.0 bulbs. For example, they also work with the LIGHTIFY bulbs in the UK as they are ZLL (for some reason they are ZigBee HA in the U.S.).
BTW, if you have device type handlers that you would like to share with the community, it’s usually a good idea to start an author thread in the community code section of the forum. That way it’ll show up on the quick browse lists in the community – created wiki and more people will be able to find it.
Regarding pairing with the remote; does it also apply to the IKEA 5 button remote?
I’ve found the remote as THING, but in the ST app it states “Please Wait”. According to your guideline (step 5) I should keep the remote close to ST Hub and hold reset button for 15 seconds, but noting happens.
The thread’s getting long so I understand how it’s tempting not to look through for answers. THING is correct since there isn’t a Device Handler for the remote. “Please Wait” is normal since there isn’t a Device Handler present.
The “Steering Device” will still able to control everything except the color temp when there isn’t a Device Handler present.
Sorry I misunderstood your post. However, the link explains that Trådfri are ZLL but report as ZHA due to non-compliance at the moment. It’s not in reference to Hue Bulbs specifically.
I don’t believe the original IKEA Devices were certified for either profile: I think that technically they’re “manufacturer proprietary.” No guaranteed interoperability. The inexpensive orvibo zigbee devices are the same way. They mostly work but there are some idiosyncrasies, including the fact that the Orvibo devices will work with the SmartThings 2 hub but not the first generation hub.
It would be nice if Ikea eventually got them fully certified, but I wouldn’t count on it.
One of the people on the hue developers board has done some deep dive work on just what commands are being sent and has the following information:
The bad news: both the light and the remote seem to use the usual ZLL clusters, but on a ZHA endpoint instead of a ZLL endpoint. I’m no ZigBee expert, but it would seem like the Trådfri is not ZLL compliant.
Updated: In April Ikea did get one version of one light ZLL certified, but it only appears to apply to that specific firmware/hardware model. They didn’t go back and upgrade other existing devices. So it may also be that people have different experiences because they have devices with different firmware and technical specifications. That’s likely to be a problem for a while because of the retail distribution. There won’t be any way to tell in the store which devices are from the older stock.
