Hue Bridge now only works with Hue-certified brands (no GE, Osram, or Cree) (market trends discussion)

The Hue Lux is being replaced with the new Hue White model which is both cheaper and brighter. (800 lumens instead of 600). Best Buy and Walmart have them at around $15 regular price, and other retailers are starting to get them in.

Philips has reversed course, and will allow 3rd party bulbs, after backlash.

better shape but as far as I can tell does not offer temp control like the older bulbs… fixed at 2700
I prefer to be able to change the color temp. osram bulbs still my first choice

The Hue Lux were also fixed at 2700, that’s not a temperature tunable bulb.

The Osram Lightify are temperature tunable, but unusual in that feature.

Just in case anyone missed it, there was enough outcry that Philips has decided to reverse their decision.

From SmartThings? Frankly, no. Never.

I’m still waiting for the hub migration tool*… I guess a lot of the engineers will be working Christmas.

*Or some “transparency and accountability” from the folks that promised it “by the end of the year”.

Well that promise was made before they hit the wall and broke the system into pieces. I am glad things are finally coming together, maybe they can start working on the promises made back in September…(2014)

Technically it was made on the same day as they “broke the system into pieces”. On September 3rd, SmartThings made the biggest trifecta mistake of their entire history (releasing Hub V2 prematurely, releasing App V2 with radical UI changes with no user heads-up, and launching UK distribution). It was a day that should never have happened … or they should have been crossing fingers and praying – not making promises. Darn … I’m ranting again.

I guess the relevant point to this Topic: Every company makes mistakes, but not everyone is as skilled at recovering from them. This quick reversal of Philips’s decision and firmware upgrade is extremely impressive, and an excellent lesson for SmartThings.

As mentioned in other Topics, there are a lot of things that SmartThings could do to “fix” some of the troublesome decisions (e.g., bring back some of the old dashboards while new ones are being designed; acknowledge that a migration tool is not something that was in the allocated 4 month timeframe, …); but … well, guess it’s more valuable to move forward than to dwell on how we got here and continue to spin the wheels a bit too frequently.

It’s interesting that they all show up as lux bulbs. I recently changed all my bulbs to the hue bridge because of the drop off issue, and haven’t had a problem since. I also have had authentication issues with ivee and i can still voice control them directly or through harmony this way.
