Home Theatre: Sonos vs other amps

Hey all!

I live in Spain. So if this has to go to the Euro section, please change it… but I can’t see why it would have to be region specific…)

I currently have a dumb Sony 5.1 amp in the living room connected to my Samsung KS8000 and Wii U.

I use a couple of logitech harmony activities to change from just regular TV watch mode, to night-time watch mode to Game mode.

The radio option included in the amp… well… lets just say I used it in the demo the installer guy did the first day back in 2008 and never used it since…

Obviously when I got this, smartthings was nowhere to be seen…

Fastforward to 2017… I’m looking to upgrade the setup to the latest audio/video codecs… and obviously a requirement (for me at least) is to have it integrated with ST…

Should I look into another amp? In that case, what are my options?

Another idea I had was to have a Sonos 5.1 setup… more or less the same cost I take it…

Thoughts?

What do you want the setup to do?

What features from SmartThings are you wanting to come through on the speakers? If its Text-To-Speech that will limit your options but can be done with BigTalker on most systems - maybe even the one you have.

Basically all I have now (launch TV with the surround sound during “regular” TV hours, launch it WITHOUT surround and on headphone on insomnia attacks, Console gaming) plus obviously all the light mode changes…

You mentioned TTS… lol! I hadn’t thought of that… but it’s obviously a plus!!

All that while adding the new codecs and techs… being able to cast my music from the phone, Google Play Music, itunes or whatever… which I obviously can’t do right now easily from the current amp…
