Home Monitor Alarm as condition to trigger and Alexa announcement?

With the Alexa/Smartthings skill, Is it possible to make Alexa trap a SmartThings Home Monitor Alarm as a condition for triggering an announcement in Echo Speaks?

Echo speaks is obsolete and doesn’t work with the latest Smartthings architecture.

Sorry but, I got the Alexa Smartthings Skill and I could trigger dry contact opening and closing so I’ve made and Alexa routine to announce the change of states. My question is about trapping an alarm from the Smartthings home monitor

Yes, you can do it with Alexa routines (not SmartThings routines.

That’s not “Alexa speaks“, though, which was a specific custom smart app developed for a previous SmartThings platform. It was very popular for a couple of years, but doesn’t work with the current platform.

Anyway, the way to do it is just to use a virtual switch. And turn that on as part of the alarm going off, the same way, you would turn on a real physical light.

Once you have that, it will all work the same way you have your relay working.

Just remember to have something turn the virtual switch off again. :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

Yes I understand…but while making the routine in the Alexa environment, the only devices visible are dry contact, mouvement sensor, and Cam. The switchs aren’t selectable. Is there a way to create a virtual dry contact sensor ?

Ok Guys, Copilot help me. I’ve created a Virtual Switch that was triggered buy an Home Monitor alert. Also created a Virtual “LOCK”. The lock have the capacity to send his status at the Alexa. So I’ve made a routine to Close the virtual LOCK when the Virtual Switch turn on. Sequence of activation in case of intrusion: Home monitor turn in alert mode, the response is to activate the Virtual switch. When the Virtual Switch is activated, the Vitual Lock turn in Locked mode… then the Alexa received the “closed” statut the launch and annoucement to all my Echos

If you have a SmartThings hub you can create a Virtual Alexa Switch which includes a set a contacts.

Sounds like you would find the FAQ helpful. It’s old, but still accurate.
