I realise there have been a lot of posts and discussions on the smart bulb Vs smart switch topic over recent times but I wondered if there is now a preference for smart bulbs over smart switches.
The cost of smart bulbs continues to reduce, manufacturers are beginning to offer wireless switches alongside their smart bulbs (Lutron Caseta, Philps Hue, etc.) and there is a plethora of standalone wireless (Z-wave, Zigbee, etc) switches which can communicate with another manufacturers smart bulbs via a hub like SmartThings. Switch wall plates are also becoming available which enable users to remove their existing mechanical wall switches and replace with a cover plate designed to support the wireless switches (with the electrical connections in the wall being permanently connected together) therefore preventing users unknowingly turning off the power to the smart bulbs.
So why would you install smart switches over smart bulbs?
