The Global Suite integration does not require an app update. It is a cloud-to-cloud integration and would simply be added to the Add Device section on the backend.
Respectfully, they must have with withdrawn it because something wasnât working. Maybe it was an invisible issue like a security problem or taking too many resources, maybe it was something that worked with some models but not with others, and I know itâs super frustrating to have been able to use it in the past and not use it now. But I see no reason not to believe their explanation that it was supposed to still be in Beta when it was released prematurely.
Iâm not saying donât be angry with them: releasing it early was a very real mistake. But I wouldnât start assigning conspiracy theories. Either move onto a different brand or wait for this release. Itâs not worth the time or stress to try to speed up a company that says theyâre already working on it.
But again, my sympathies. The early release was definitely an error.
There are workarounds, which is what I was using before the integration magically appeared. I used to use virtual switches with Alexa and all the devices worked flawlessly.
Would I prefer a direct integration? Absolutely. Will not having one stop me from using my plugs and stuff? Absolutely not.
I understand all. its frustrating to say the least.
Making promises you cannot keep is bad.
But to keep saying a week if the ending is clearly not in sight is unforgivable.
They are either really useless at writing code or stringing people along.
Or itâs a really hard problem. (Hardware is hard.)
Or Marketing doesnât understand what engineering is saying.
Iâve been the engineer in both of those two situations and itâs frustrating for them, too.
I used to use the example that engineering had come up with a red model and a blue model and marketing comes back from a meeting and says âgreat news! I sold them a purple one!â
And engineering would say âwe donât have a purple one.â
And marketing would say âI know. But we have a red one and a blue one. Canât you just sort of mush those together and make a purple one?â
Then they should get onto their support people and stop making promises of next week.
Good way to keep people trying to make a purchase decision interested or actually making the purchase.
This has damaged their brand, if only briefly. Almost as much as the TV Universal Guide has damaged Samsungâs. Got rid of the bloody thing from my TV (and the other equally annoying one, I forget the name of, thanks to a visit to the service menu) and now its reared its ugly head in my ST app.
BTW, A friend of mine mentioned that If This is a Chinese company, their workforce may be significantly affected by the self quarantine efforts going on there.
Wyze, for example, just sent out a letter saying that their new keypad is going to be delayed at least a month because of coronavirus supply chain issues.
My friend said one of their Chinese partners which just provides programming has about a third of their staff out, and there are âdelays of unknown length to be expected.â
Shouldnât be at all at this point unless Globe had questions about the smartthings API that they were not getting answers to.
On the new platform, the device manufacturers take responsibility for the integrations, develop them, and publish them. They shouldnât have to wait on smartthings for anything other than information.
Because I think ST as a whole donât have a level playing field yet (still). And it also seems the people developing the Connect app are disconnected from the back end folks because itâs a freaking mess.
I think you need to lower your expectations to be honest. Come back in two years and they may be half way there.
Global Suite has a serious problem getting this right as they are using Tuya to create access it looks like. If you go to Tuya, Global Suite, Smart Life and Iâll bet there are others youâll see that they are using the same interface. Iâll bet itâs just user name and password all getting stored in the same Tuya database and from there it decides what vendor to hook your app up to. Iâm sure any Tuya type device will hook up to any of the apps. Iâve tried a few and yes they can be added to any app. Bottom line is Iâll bet dollars to donuts that Global Suite isnât really even involved in the cloud to cloud interface between the Tuya/Global Suite apps and Smartthings app, itâs Tuya/Smartthings.
If Iâm right it will be out sometime in March, just not sure about the year so donât hold your breath. Itâs coming but so is Christmas, Iâll bet on Christmas.
Any suggestions on how to integrate tuya/smartlife app devices with ST beside IFTTT and virtual switches because that seems to be acting up for a few days now would be greatly appreciated. Cheers!
