Getting ready to purchase GE light switches. Question about wiring

Hey all, I bought the GE Dimmer and add-on switch. I have the up stair switch box with 2 Black, ground, red and white bundled in the back. The down stairs switch box that runs the same light has 1 black, ground, red,and white (with no other wires in the switch box) Is it possible to hook the switch up?

This will help you …

I know its hard to see, but one of the option show had it to where black was capped to the add_on. Now I’m thinking it is possible.

I am looking to add a GE switch to control my front porch lights. The box has 2 light switches one for a inside entrance light and one that controls the porch. Do need 2 ge switches for this setup? It appears I have the necessary neutral wire etc in the box.

Any help would be great.

You will need 2 GE smart switches to control the 2 light circuits.

Here is a few pictures of the current wiring. I am only going to control one of the switches right now. I know the ground and neutral wires, but the two other wires are both black. How do I know which is the load and which is the line?
Also one of the black wires goes to the other light switch… No idea why or what that is for. (Load or line.) Any suggestions?

For anyone who doesn’t know how to tell which wire is which behind a light switch, if you live near a Home Depot, many offer a free class in how to install a light switch which can be very helpful. They won’t talk about networked switches, but you will learn how to map the different circuit segments and use the tools. And if you intend to use the GE switches, sometimes the instructor can answer some questions about those because they are sold by Home Depot. But even if not, taking that class can really help you a lot in understanding the tools and concepts involved in light switches. :sunglasses::level_slider::bulb:

Yeah I felt pretty comfortable until I ran into the black wire that is connected between the two light switches. That is the one I am unsure of if it is Line or Load. (Connected to the light or power.

Well it is successfully installed and paired. And from I can tell my house is not going to burn down…
