Support added them back in.
Not all automations shows up in messages, I think it will only show those changing location modes, not usual devices automations. Not sure for sthm though since Iâm not using them.
Thermostat away automation shown in history
But not in messages:
Mine are showing for everything or at least for those where notify is set up
Potential bug then? @blake.arnold @Brad_ST for me itâs only showing those changing location modes. Tried to do the trick to toggle/untoggle messages to hide but still only getting location automation messages.
Click the more (three dots in the upper right of the screen) and make sure you did not hide messages
Nope, select everything even other messages
This is an official thread started by @SmartThings and being monitored by them.
Letâs try to help them by not cluttering it up, allow users to continue to post all the problems they have with the new app, so itâs easier for SmartThings to take note and fix, all this chitter chatter, self diagnosis and SmartThings apologists, should really be for separate threads.
I had mentioned the same thing in here a few months ago.
I think this is one of those things that we have to accept as it is (a lost battle).
It looks to me someone at Samsung is very happy with the new app design (you can see how proud they are when they talk about the app at the conferences, press releases and stuff like that).
I donât expect them to change it however, it doesnât take dozens of years of experience in application design and usability like some of us may have to figure out the app could be a lot better - as far as user experience goes.
If I had to summarize it based on what see I would say:
Someone with no previous experience in the home automation industry, who never experienced home automation in their own homes, is going trough the âSamsung One UIâ design specs and making sure their check all the boxes, without stopping to think how those decisions are impacting the end users and what the app is meant for.
It may not be the case and it may sounds a a bit dramatic or exaggerated but it is meant to prove a point (and my disappointment)
For those who owns a google home hub, just slide down and see how space is utilized as a combination of dashboard and action panel.
Also look at how Cresto Home OS does it in their apps (feel free to google it if you never heard of them).
They both have two things in common:
1- They combine useful information (like temperature and other sensors) with actions (like scenes and buttons) in a clean, minimalist way while making sure real state is properly allocated.
2- They make it looks good since it is something that will become part of your home (in the Cresto case it would be the table app).
Meanwhile this is what my tablet version (iPad, iOS) looks like:
Look at all the empty space. It is as bad as it can be be.
Definitely not something I would proudly hand on the walls around my house.
Donât get me wrong, I do appreciate the work that is put into the platform and how it is evolving.
Also, while a lot in user interface is is subjective, when it comes to user experience⌠not so much.
I do hope someday we can get the best of both worlds (even if through a 3rd party app).
Ran into this exact problem (and not just with location mode.) The inability for a device or mode to be a trigger AND an action has lead to a very messy setup where Iâm doing some things still in WebCoRE and others in the new app.
I understand why the guardrails are there, but it severely limits how I used to do things
Thatâs my world exactly. Konnected, ActionTiles, SHM Delay. Iâm a bit⌠shall I say, petrified at the potential daunting task ahead for migrating. I have everything working now (minus a new Garage Door device) and figuring it all out in the new world ⌠Ugh.
Thatâs whay all my wall tablets use ActionTiles. Compact, consistent and totally configurable.
Thankefully app independant. I am trying to get used to v3 but I miss everything that this thread states, curse of the power user? @alex
I havenât seem anyone mention this little annoyance.
I use quite a few Simulated Switches and 3 Aeon Minimotes.
In the old app they show as regular devices without issue but in the new app the virtual devices always show OFFLINE even thought the IDE says they are ONLINE in most fields. A virtual device doesnât report in so it should always show as ONLINE. Minimotes (and buttons/momentaries) are the same, they donât report in as they are only âaliveâ when you push a the button.

Unfortunately, for us old functional-favoring diehards, the state of the art today, Design Thinking, is heavy on aesthetics and new functionality and brings a bare minimum of existing user-depended upon functionality. The view is that the new user experience is king and can only be gotten by gathering new requirements. It frequently leaves out critical functionality. At IBM, they acquired Lombardi who was eating our lunch from the UX perspective and promoted their leader to a new position, GM of Design! Their first product produced with DT was a web-based email client, (why anyone needed that is a different story with one word, Money). That email client crashed the browser whenever someone typing in itâs text box hit CTRL-B or CTRL-I, etc⌠smh. Here we go again. Pretty, but empty head.
Personally I think you could have prevented some of the confusion if the announcement email would have been even clearer in the message: âThe new app is not complete yetâ and âwe will not force you to move over to the new app anytime soonâ. To me, the subject âGet ready to make the switchâ gave me such a scare that I only read half of the message in the content of the emailâŚ
Are there any plans to update the Garmin Connect IQ app to read automations from the new app instead of the old one, or both? This is something I use daily.
I donât think Iâve seen this answered yet, so how can we monitor that a door wasnât left open or unlocked (get a notification 5 min after the sensor is open and doesnât close or if the locked was unlocked and left unlocked)? This is a basic function of SHM in the classic app.
You canât yet, but look here for an option:
Thanks! So do I wait for ST to add this feature to the new app or install another custom app ⌠Does this app work with locks as well?
No problem, and good question. Who really knows when features like this will show up.
Unfortunately this does not work with locks, but it can easily modified. Another app can be replicated from this code for lock capabilities. I did that already for switches. Let me know if you want an app like that. I can probably get that done tonight.
Hmm, can I not run automations manually in the new app?
