[DEPRECATED] Blink Camera Device Handler with Motion Sensor, Live Video Streaming, Integration with SmartThings/SHM, Temperature, Signals and Push Notifications

Not if you pay very little attention and have had a few too many Christmas
Drinkies it isnt

You must have started on the egg nog several days before Christmas :tumbler_glass: :cocktail: :clinking_glasses:

Like I mentioned previously, I picked up a pair of Blink XT’s for Christmas and I thought I’d give them a try to see whether I could survive on the IFTTT integration with SmartThings but sadly I haven’t even got to that point yet.

This is the quality that the night vision provides:

Obviously it’s terrible - I don’t know if I was expecting too much.

Is that a Christmas light directly in front of your cam and turned on?

Yeah they’re Christmas lights, but no - they’re not turned on.

My night vision is much better than that. The bright foreground wooden beam or fascia or whatever it is at upper right is likely part of the problem. Eliminating bright, light-colored objects that reflect the light back into the lens should help.

That’s because you’re reflecting off of the board above it.

The cameras are sitting under the eaves of my house. I cant see any other place to put them - the drainpipe is attatched to the outside of the eaves.

I tried turning the camera upside down in the hope that would create more distance but its no different.

This does suck since I just received my cameras last week and paid for access for the Rboy apps the day I see it’s been suspended. Come have something to do with Blink being purchased by Amazon recently. I wonder how this might change things. Blink comments that things will continue as is “for now.”

Amazon acquires Andover-based Blink, maker of home security cameras

Same here Tony. I received mine at the beginning of December and now I’m torn as to whether to keep them or send them back.

I’ve tried hard to find something that has no cloud fees and can be integrated with Smartthings, but I don’t think anything exsists.

Until last night, I though Foscam might be an option, since I’m not sure I even require a cloud based system, but you can’t watch recorded videos on your phone and I don’t want anything to do with a PC or Mac based system.

The search is still on I guess.

Hi I bought some Blink XT and indoor on Black Friday in UK. I looked into it and found ST integration. I’ve opened them but haven’t registered/setup yet. I also am disappointed as was about to pay for @RBoy SmartApp integration.

Can you help on your current ST>IFTTT>Blink samples etc please, how you do it, what you do, examples etc please? I need to see if this is ok for my use before thinking of sending back.

thanks

I sent my Blink Camera’s Back this morning (3 for $190 or $63 each ) and bought 4 of these for $280 ($69 each). They are slightly more per camera, but have native smartthings support I’m looking for. I’m not sure how great the smartthings integration is, but we will soon find out. I’ll update everyone with a comparison to my Blink’s if anyone is interested.

@rkierstead8, how did you send them back? Were they with in the normal return period or did they accept a longer return with used cameras, no boxes etc? Their support was useless over the forums regarding return questions and anytime I called their support I had to hang up after waiting 20 minutes.

I still had my original packaging, so that wasn’t an issue. Im not sure if it is required. I doubt it.

I contacted them via email and they told me that they were accepting returns within the last year because of the change.

This is the return form that they sent me.

If anyone is interested I have 6 indoor cameras and 3 XT outdoor cameras that I am selling. $60 a piece for the indoor. $90 a piece for the outdoor. I am ok splitting them up. Just send me a note. I also have one sync module I can through in.

Thanks.

I am just listing them on EBay. I tried to return via Amazon but it looks like I bought from a reseller. :frowning: And Blink isn’t responding to my emails. Sucks since they work great, but not being able to arm/disarm with smart things is a deal breaker.

I sent all mine back to Amazon. One was over a year old. I paid a restocking fee of 25% but they took them all back and none were in original packages. I explained the reason for the return was the discontinuation of the API and issue with SmartThings integration. Overall, I am not disappointed with the outcome. We are in wild wild west here folks with HA and DIY - just my opinion. I am just not confident that it keeping ST platform whole is aligned with Amazon’s business strategy. They saw a good thing (Blink) like we did but they have a lot bigger pockets than I do .

What worries me is that Amazon are taking them back, and not saying, its ok the API us being updated, or ST support will return soon, and just refunding.

I’m in UK, just bought before Xmas and wondering what to do now. It was the ideal setup I think, totally wireless, long (ish) battery life etc.

I bought 2 XT and an indoor, but haven’t setup yet either.

I have the exact same fear/concern.

What are you thinking of doing then? waiting and hoping? surely the system still works as Blink want to at moment though? its just no where near as good without ST?

Can someone clever not create another SmartAPP/DH though, sorry I’m not clever or know enough, or will it be permanently locked out by Blink if they want to?

I wanted to keep the motion detection capability as well as arm and disarm. I wrote two quick device handlers that will (jointly) do that function. Have tested and they work. See this link. It includes simplified (not detailed) installation instructions.
