[DEPRECATED] Blink Camera Device Handler with Motion Sensor, Live Video Streaming, Integration with SmartThings/SHM, Temperature, Signals and Push Notifications

And why Amazon was so cooperative with the returns.

Nothing to see here move along…:zipper_mouth_face:

They posted this to their website and we have been discussing it in this thread for the last 24 hours…

My bad i thought the email was recent but the announcement was just unoffical basic jargon

well that explains it

I wonder if now since ST works with Alexa and Blink works with Alexa via direct integration if we could build an app that would leverage Alexa to control the blink system? @RBoy

Literally had it in my basket to buy! So glad I didn’t. What a waste of time that would have been.

I’ll wait for Arlo to drop a bit more in price.

We can still integrate through IFTTT apps using

a. A device handler/device to be the Blink System - arm and disarm. When turned-on, an IFTTT app would ARM the Blink Camera, off - disarm.

b. A separate device handler/device to flag motion. When the Blink detects motion, it would turn this on (which would also send an event via the Motion Sensor capability).

This then allows integration with the SmartThings ā€œarmedā€ systems. Problem - can’t guarantee since there is no feed-back loop through IFTTT of the actual camera state.

One of the issues with Blink is that it always sends a notification AFTER the motion has occurred.

You think a hacky thing like this could work for snapping pictures or recording a clip when a contact sensor is opened? Or would the delay be to large?

It all suddenly makes sense…
"According to a release posted to Blink’s website, nothing will change for its customers at the moment. The company will continue to operate and support its products as per usual."
Well… Not really… Lets all comment on Engadget post…
Also explains why they don’t care that we return our blink…

That’s not an issue but product feature, it has been working the way since day 1.

It’s only an ā€œissueā€ when it work previously but then not later.

A feature can only be seen as a feature when it has use to the end user - what usefulness does this ā€œfeatureā€ have? it seems to make it easier for Blink and hard for us. I’ll be calling it an ā€œissueā€.

anyway it’s off topic, the Issue is - the ā€œofficialā€ device handler is not working and people pay for it.

Maybe i dont undertand your statement but the official device handler doesnt work BECAUSE OF BLINK. People PAID for it yes when it was functional. As far as i know rboy has pulled it so that no one is paying for a non functional app

Let’s just make sure we’re all clear. No one paid for a ā€˜Blink DTH/SA’, people paid RBoy for access to RBoy’s repository which happens to contain Device Type Handlers and SmartApps.

And you had the option to pay a donation: monthly, yearly or lifetime for access to ALL of the SmartApps and Device Handlers on the website, which included Blink (which has now been discontinued on the website).

The problem is, peoples are buying the device handler as it’s claims to be ā€œofficialā€, but now the blame was put to Blink alone.

Time to move on. The mourning period is over. Find a workaround solution or another product for integration.

Yes. Ppl should learn not to any how claims to be Official when they are not.
