Not certain on that. The last time someone posted a battery expacted life span is up above in this thread. But no actuall study has been done.
Ended up getting 2 of the 8 packs that ships from and sold by Amazon.com. A little more per battery but worth the piece of mind.
Thanks for the heads-up!
Looks like I will be doing a little electrical and drywall over the weekend.
Excellent! I just made a purchase. Hereâs another $25 off if someone wants to use it. https://share.blinkforhome.com/x/CU6azI
Hi,
I just wanted to check if the following screenshot relates to an older design of the smartapp, as I donât seem to see some of the options shown in the current app.
I noticed there is signal / wifi strength shown, including light and recording settings.
Cheers,
H
Many thanks for the detailed explaination on the batteries.
Yeah I noticed the rechargable Nimh showed 47-50% and standard alkalines give about 70ish%. Havenât tried the lithiums but sounds like they are the way to go if they last 1-2 years.
Personally I donât think itâs ever going to be cost effective or worth it.
NiCD batteries probably wonât center work to begin with because they are 1.2v so with 2 batteries thatâs 2.4 volts. Thatâs below the cut off voltage if the camera so it wonât work.
NiMH starts at 1.5v and drops to 1.2v. Again given self discharge it will fall below the operating cut off voltage very quickly depending upon use. Lithium batteries by comparison have stable 1.7v output (see my posts above showing the discharge curves and comparison between different battery types). So basically youâll be charging these batteries every month or two depending upon usage.
Given that these batteries have a life of about 3 years and they cost about $4-$5 a price over three years youâll spend more on these than in Lithium batteries.
They were removed based on user feedback as it was complicating the UI. These signals levels donât change once the camera is installed and you can view them from the Blink native app if ever required. Not really relevant to the ST ecosystem.
The recording length is rarely ever changed by users as itâs more relevant to the modes so you can use the Blink Camera Manager to set the recording length for each mode.
Great cammera placement.
Has anyone tried hooking up a solar 5v charger to the USB for outdoor mounted cameras?
I was entertaining the idea. But am not certain how much charge I can get. Iâll dig up my USB Sola panal from my car trunk and test it on my Deck camera. Do you think that Blink camera will allow Path Through Charging from a Solar panal? I didnât see that in the specs.
Is the play back of video recordings (due to motion) only via the native blink app. Or is there something similar via the smartapp under ST setup like the camera snaps?
No, but I did replace one of my hardwired Nightowl cameras with Blink, and I used the power source for that to feed into the Blink with one of these:
Since the mirco USB port is designed to run the camera on power, I donât see why a solar powered 5v USB wonât work.
There are some solar powered battery packs with USB ports.
I have more than ten Blink cameras that Iâve had for more than a year and none of them have needed battery replacement as yet.
Iâve followed the directions exactly and purchased the code from the site listed. Iâve gone ahead and installed the handler and the SmartApp per the instructions. After I install the SmartApp and put in my username and password, I get The following error messages: âAn unexpected error occurred.â And then âError creating blink camera device.â
Help?
Did you add and publish the Device Handler?
Yes and I even deleted the handler and tried to re-enter / publish the code and now I canât even get it to save.
That error indicates you have a copy paste issue. The code wasnât all copied over properly.
I have a 4 channel CCTV system (not integrated with ST) that covers the Outside and are always on, an Amcrest in the Attic (long story) and a Ring Pro for the Front DoorâŚ
I guess I am covered.
These are the other 2 inside
If you happen to make it upstairs then there is a shotgun and a glock waiting on you! That if you make it past the two pooches.
