Control ceiling fan without lights or wall switch

Looking for a solution to control my ceiling fans. They are wired such that the lights are on a wall switch, but the fan always has power and is controlled by the chain. I’m looking for something I can put up in the fan to control the speed. I already have Homeseer WD100+ on the light circuits, so I don’t need anything up there to control the lights. Any recommendations?

There are two popular options, it will depend in part on how much space you have in the fan canopy.

Up until late 2016, people would just take the GE fan switch and put it in the fan canopy. That way it can control the fan speed. This was popular for people who had a wall switch set up for the lights and just wanted to be able to control the fan from the network.

Now, there is also a fan controller option designed to be put in the canopy from Hampton Bay. It has an optional wall controller, but you don’t need to buy that piece if you aren’t going to use it.

Both of these devices are discussed in the fan FAQ. The discussion there includes details of the wall switches, but again you don’t have to use those if you don’t want to.

I know @dalec has used both options at his house, he may be able to say more. :sunglasses:

I finally made a decision. I bought the Z-wave Smart Fan Control and the Z-wave Smart Dimmer. It was not an easy Installation since I needed to replace my single gang box with a double gang box. They work perfectly with my IQ Panel and Alexa Voice Controls. I am happy, thank you everyone who reacted to this.
