Calling all community members: New SmartApp Ideas

I too would like this, but not just coded to Hue. Adding the Fibaro RGBW would be nice too!

Hi Keith, you program works very well, checked it tonight.
Lets turn that switch off. I also found out that one of my temp sensors does
not report temp very often. I will have to replace it for more responsive sensor.
Now I understand why you introduced Default Temp. Thank you!

Hi Victor,
That’s great that it’s working for you! I uploaded the switch off code but my internet is up and down so I cant test it with my own hub tonight. Give it a try and let me know if it works. I’ll be trying to test it myself when my internet is back to normal.

Hi Keith, your program works well, including new turn off feature. Unfortunatelly my room T sensor does not report very often and program hangs and does not react till next room T report. When I wake up sensors manually, everything is seem to be perfect. Is default temperature for probe? I will change sensor. I found a plug-in that can report every minute and no battery. Hope that is it. Thank you very much for you help!

Just found out that program hangs sometimes not because of sensors slow updates, but because T number they report are not Integers. So, i changed line 92 and 93 toDoubles and it works very smooth now. Still more responsive sensors will help with the precision of this stove monitoring. Mission accomplished! Thanks.

Here’s one I’d be interested in doing if there’s more than myself interested.

Problem: I have 4 speakers around the house that I mostly use for tts and mp3 annunciation. Works great, except I need to select the speaker as part of the automation, this may or may not be where people are located in the house when the automation fires…

What if: we have a virtual speaker that all the automations use, the app then creates zones, each zone consists of one or more speakers, and one or motion sensors…
When we play to the virtual speaker, the app then sends these commands to any of the zones that have motion events going on…

A sort of follow me with sound concept…

I still may do this just for myself, but will likely be more motivated if others are interested.

I am looking for a way to read my pool temp via smartthings. A battery operated sensor of some kind Anda device handler for it.

Any ideas?

This is a great idea. I have several sonos on several different levels of the house. I would be more than willing to test if needed.

I’d love an app that allows me to type a phrase, pick a speaker and then it speaks that phrase through the speaker. Have this with my ubi right now…but I fear the hardware will die soon (as my other one did). The other thing it does is give me a widget with a mic that I can talk into and then it sends the speech to the speaker I’ve selected.

you can do that right now with Big Talker

It just seems a bit cumbersome…imho. But yes…you can!

rule machine as well…

Why not using the ‘Speaker Notify with Sound’ from marketplace…?

I’m looking for something that isn’t dependent on a trigger or event to take place. More of an ad-hoc approach. We use this like an intercom in our home to communicate between floors.

Ah, maybe @JDRoberts has a good idea on this issue. I know he is using voice a lot.

I got the basics of this working yesterday! Need to implement a few more methods in the virtual speaker, then we should have something to play with.

We use voice control of home automation through Echo and Siri, but we don’t use any voice notifications except for fire alarms. Small house, three housemates with different schedules, everybody likes to sleep in when They can.

One of the reasons a smart lock for the front door was so helpful here is because it reduces the number of the doorbell rings. So we use voice in, not voice out. And since there are no children in the house, we just text each other as needed ( One of the things Siri is great for, by the way. I use voice text on the watch all the time.)

So voice notification is Just not an area I have any experience with. One of those “your use case is not my use case” things. :sunglasses:

am i allowed to ask for a new App idea. I want a smart motion sensor to send a command to a wifi enabled device located in my house alarm. This is to be triggered by the presence of my mobile phone to either turn the alarm on or off depending whether or not the phone is in or away from the building the alarm is located in. Therefore will have no need to touch the keypad or press a remote keyfob button when i arrive at or leave home.
