Blink support discontinued!

I will NEVER recommend or buy another Blink product. I know for a fact that I have sold over 50 of these cameras for them.

Technically, what they’re saying is true. You can integrate ST with Blink via IFTTT. Everything just runs through IFTTT and there’s no direct integration. Yeah, what they’re doing is crappy, but they’re not misleading people by saying you can connect ST to Blink via IFTTT.

It is not the same because Blink cameras are valuable because they are battery powered, no wires, I have used the Blue Iris solution w/ my wired cameras but Blink solves something different.

I’m probably going to sell them to. I think I prefer my previous PoE setup because it could record all the time and not miss things.

Not that simple for some of us though. My main priorities are that the cameras be wireless, and they also be waterproof.

Update from Blink - This no twhat they said in their original email an djust t remind you it said

On December 19, 2017, Blink is discontinuing support for all SmartThings integrations including the developer RBoy app. For your security, we recommend that you change your Blink password. We thank for your continued support of Blink and apologize for any inconvenience.

Thanks,
Blink

Update from Blink… note the word temporarily !!!

As you may have read on the SmartThings Forum we have decided to temporarily continue support for the latest version of the “RBoy” 3rd party integration while we investigate sustainable & secure alternatives for the SmartThings community using Blink. We intend to have an update within the next few weeks.
For all information and questions on this integration, please refer to:

We are actively looking for feedback on how to improve our IFTTT service. If you have any feature suggestions on how this could help you, please let us know.
Thanks,

That’s good. Perhaps a bit of pressure helped.

I was just trying to link up IFTTT, which seems like it would work - trigger Blink arm/disarm from a simulated switch.

However it doesn’t allow arming/disarming of specific cameras, which is useful for night-time mode (arm only downstairs cameras).

You may be able to workaround this with separate sync modules, not ideal, but it might work if you have an extra one

Would you mind sharing the CEO’s e-mail address?

I tend to agree with you but this is starting to become the MO of a good number of these companies - we’re open, we integrate, we have APIs, please development community come provide talent, code and development for us on a community basis. Then as soon as their customer base is large enough or they realize the additional revenue that could come from a locked-in solution they flip the switch.

If this is truly a security issue a different conversation can be had (approach still sucks) but we haven’t been given any proof or indication of that beyond simply change your password.

For indoor where outlets are easy to find, I just go with Foscams, for which Rboy has integrations

I also received an email response from Blink (responding to my complaint) with the same message, that they are looking to resolve the issue. Very different language than what they used this morning. Terrible customer service. We’ll see what really happens.

Whats your guess?

I tried IFTTT integration a while back it was so laggy…is it better now? I’m only looking for arm/disarm functionality.

I did a quick test; so no real world experience yet; and while there was a lag it wasn’t enough to cause me concern for arm and disarm. Now, the inability to manage specific camera . . . sigh.

You miss one IMPORTANT word and look what it has caused.
I would expect them to issue a statement clarifying their mistake and path forward to stop the exodus or trash talk.

They replied to my e-mail (just now) with:

“We are sorry to inform but as you may have read on the SmartThings Forum we have decided to temporarily continue support for the latest version of the “RBoy” 3rd party integration while we investigate sustainable & secure alternatives for the SmartThings community using Blink. We intend to have an update within the next few weeks.”

So, it is being re-enabled… it seems.

Got an email stating that they will let me return cameras and will provide the refund. Although I will have to pay for shipping.
Now would like a refund from Rboy as well.

Thanks for posting! E-mail bounced. Guess they were terrified of the e-mail they knew I was about to send. :joy:

Not Roby’s fault…at all

Hang on, hang on, hang on…

Other posters have received a similar response but theirs say “…we have decided to temporarily discontinue support…”

So what is it? Continue, or discontinue?
