Automatic routines not working as of yesterday (17 Sept 2023)

After receiving the beta update to 50.07, the issue persists. I tried adding my location mode preconditions back into the routine but the routine failed to trigger. I removed the precondition and the routine fired.

I use sunset/sunrise and vice versa to vary the light levels when we’re at home. For example; if I’m “home” and it’s daytime, then the lights turn on at 50% and after sunset, they turn on at 90%.

However, I just tested the timeframe precondition without the location mode precondition and that is not working either. The lights are turning on but at the last set dimming level and not the after-sunset level in the routine.

That means location mode and timeframe are no longer working as preconditions.

Apologies for the multiple posts on this topic this evening, but in an effort to share as much as possible about my environment to help find a solution, I wanted to share the motion sensors and switches/dimmers that are part of the impacted routines.

In all cases, I am using Fibaro motion sensors that use the stock ST Z-wave Sensor driver and my switches are GE/Jasco/Honeywell that use the @philh30 driver.

I not sure if that is helpful, but I thought I would share.

Thanks to everyone who is helping troubleshoot this!

Thank you for looking into this, Jerry! Much appreciated…

Further data point since my last posting, when I found myself with a decent Internet connection mid-day when all of the aforementioned lights should have been “off” at this time. Thinking it might have something to do with Location Mode not having the correct value (perhaps being stepped on by something else), I remotely switched my hub to “Home,” then back to “Away.” The usual stuff happened that is triggered when switching to “Home” and the correct things happened when switching back to “Away.” Checked again the following morning and I saw the same failure: lights left on past their scheduled turn-off times when dependent on Location Mode = Away.

Again, thanks for following up on this, @jnettleton …

Another interesting observation last night, not experienced before. I manually set my house to night mode since it is no longer automatically running the routine.

My foyer light, when motion is detected, in home mode comes on at 90% but it night mode it comes on at 20%. Last night, in night mode, the light triggered on at 20% for a second then went to 90%. I repeated this action over and over to eliminate a fluke, but the issue was replicated 100% of the time.

It seems like the routine has no idea what location mode the hub is in.

Agreed: seems like that is somehow involved in the root cause…

I am new to this forum so please forgive my ignorance
I have Smartthings hub V3 which I use to schedule two Honeywell T60 Pro Z-wave. My criteria for changing the schedule are time and Location Mode - Home. All devices and automations run locally.
After 4 years, the schedules stopped working - nothing changed on the thermostats. After investigation, I got the schedules working again if I only included Time as a criteria. Once I added Location Mode - Home, no response from the thermostats. I previously used Location Mode to reset the thermostats when we are Away
There must be a simple solution but so far, I have not been able to find it. Any suggestions

It sounds like the same problem that others have reported regarding pre-conditions and location mode no longer working. I have moved your post to that thread. Go up to the top and read it and you’ll see what others have said. Definitely report it to support.

The test case that I created to reproduce the location mode issue is now working. A patch was added to resolve my issue. Please retest your routines and scenes, and add comments to discuss your scenario.

Thanks for your work.
For the moment, i just can tell it happen again 4 hours ago (i don’t know when your patch was applied and how to applly to my environnement).
Tomorrow evening i will be able to tell you if it is better or not (the problem happen everyday around 4PM french time)

Was this patch pushed to all hubs @jnettleton? What s/w versions of hubs received it? Thanks for following up on the issue…

The patch was applied to a cloud service so all hubs with any version.

Thank you @jnettleton. After updating a routine with the home and timeframe preconditions set, it didn’t work. However, I toggled the location mode of the hub (home → movie → home) and the routine worked. I have reverted more rules to again include the location and time preconditions. I’ll continue to test and once we go through a 24 hour cycle, I’ll be able to say confidently one way or another. Thanks again!

@jnettleton ,
Good work ! It works for me !
4PM is now passed here and my routine is still working

I didn’t happen since 17th september so it is a very good sign you found the root cause.
Thanks again, if I notice something wrong in the following days i’ll keep you updated.

It’s been 24 hours and everything seems to be working! A bonus of the patch seems to be my Sonos announcements. They are working again. I’m not sure if the patch indirectly solved that issue, but all is well.

Thanks to @jnettleton and @nayelyz for helping get this fixed and to the community who shared their experiences to help find a solution!

As of yesterday, my routines are no longer working. Nothing has been changed on my end. Not sure how to proceed. V2 hub, rebooted it.

Hi, @Chase84
In your case, did all of your automations stop working? Does any contain a “precondition” which is the one discussed here?
We would need to check your issue directly and for that we need the following:

  1. Confirm the email account registered in the forum is the same one you use for SmartThings. If not, please share it with me over DM
  2. Enable support access to your account:
  1. Go to the SmartThings Web (my.smartthings.com)
  2. Log in to your Samsung Account
  3. Select Menu (⋮) and choose Settings
  4. Toggle on Account Data Access
  5. Select the time period and confirm - In this step, please select “Until turned off”, once the team finishes, we’ll let you know so you can disable it again.
  1. If none of the routines is executing, share the time of at least two of them of when they should have executed and also their names to see their details.

My hub shows version 049.00009 and I am having the same issue. Not using precondition but simple (if motion, turn on light but has the location mode as part of the IF statement) rule. I have noticed that none of the location modes are working. Used to have a routine that when the mode changed to “night” is would turn off lights and others… But now none of the locations work.

I confirm that everything is now working fine for me since @jnettleton has applied the patch.
@dalemeyer, when did you noticed the malfunction ?

At least a week ago. Maybe more.
