That’s a scene controller. I don’t think it’s going to work with SmartThings, very few multibutton scene controllers do.

People have had the most success with the 4 button Leviton VRCS4 (but not the zone controller, VRCZ4) or the 2 button Leviton VRCS2.

I’ve created a device type for the Leviton Vizia VRCS4 Scene Controller. Because of the way the scene commands work, I essentially turned it into a 4 button remote, 3 if there is a built in relay. Setting it up is a bit of work: Note: buttons are numbered 1-4 and dim, with dim at the bottom. To associate, press and hold buttons 1 and 3 on the VRCS4 for 5 seconds, the LEDs will start to flash amber. Hold the SmartThings Hub near to the device tell the SmartThings app to connect a new device. Note: you tell the device to connect before the hub. The hub should find a ZWave Remote. This will eventually be your scene controller. If you have a load connected to the VRCS4 (hardwired): Go back to the SmartThings app dashboard. And some people have the 7 button Enerwave working. But that about it for this device class.

Hello and thanks ahead of time for your input I have this enerwave controller It does not control a load but is wall wired. I assumed it would work similar to a button controller/remote but not require constant battery changing I can add it to the smarthings hub and it appears as a “zwave controller” (one device only) but has no other functionality that I can access. Pushing buttons does not perform any action or any noticeable response on the app. In the smartapps section there is an app called “button controller” which is noted to work with the aeon minimote but when I use this app to add the enerwave controller using the inclusion sequence for the controller the program states “a new device was added but was not the correct type” and then subsequently the device “zwave controller…

Because SmartThings allows us to mix both Zigbee and zwave devices into one routine, ilike having one button press on a minimote turn on your Zigbee bulbs and your Z Wave controlled fan at the same time, they Need to know what commands a button controller wants to send so that they can be translated to devices of other protocols. So that’s a good thing in most cases.

But it does mean that a device which requires uses the Zwave commands that bypass the hub doesn’t really fit into the SmartThings architecture. For one thing, it would only be able to control Z wave devices.

Most first generation Zwave scene controllers are designed to speak directly to the light switches that they control, rather than messaging back to the hub as well. This is where everything breaks down, because since the zwave button device can’t speak directly to a zigbee device, this method doesn’t work.

The devices that relay their messages to the hub as well are much more likely to be adaptable to SmartThings.
