Any way with a routine to count switch clicks and do something different?

Let’s say I want to have a guest disable a security camera on a Zwave switch, and I’m not home. Is there a way to say, go to the living room smart switch, click it on and off in some pattern, or on 3 times, to cause a unique routine that does something like turning off a switch? (and ignores the turning the light on)

If you want the light switch to not turn on the light when switched on and wait for a pattern… consider a smart button instead. Any smart switch wired to a light will immediately react to turn the light on or off. It would be pretty useless otherwise.

Also, for a light switch there’s no way for patterns, the “on” will only trigger if it was previously “off” and viceversa. So no “on, on, on” patterns, just multiple “on, off” toggle sequences.

You need a switch with Scene capabilities. Many Zooz and GE (Jasco) have these capabilities.

If I understand correctly, that turns the switch into a smart button and will make physically switching the light on/off dependent on the hub and an automation, is that right?

The physically connected lights turn on without any automations, like an ordinary smart switch.

But there is a very short delay when you push the switch before the light turns on as the switch waits to see if you are going to press it a second time.

Thanks, I see, then those models are actually smart, the short delay is an inevitable compromise but would be worth in this case since the physical control remains.

what GE switch are you using?

It is an Enbrighten ZW4008. It was a warranty replacement for a GE switch that failed.
