All, I have rewritten it using the new Edge framework - it still needs you to create an account that has 2FA turned off, but it looks like at least on my account, I can turn it on of off on my own.
Note this implementation requires a proxy server (also provided in link below with instructions) to work, as SmartThings has disabled the ability to talk to cloud servers from the device drivers in the new Edge framework. I have submitted a feature request to enable it - though I am not holding my breath. This is a workaround.
On the flip side, it shows up as an Alarm System in Smartthings. More details below…
