I noticed that on Samsung account I can go into Locations and see that I have the three Modes available: Away, Home, and Night. There’s also an “+ Add Mode” button available.
Would it be ok to add a 4th Vacation entry to that list?
I have a virtual switch called Vacation Mode and I have routines set to run only when that switch is on, but I think making it one of the modes will be better. The way I have it now, my hub/location can have the Vacation Mode switch on, but the hub can be in Away or another mode, which can trigger other routines. Making Vacation an official mode of the location would be cleaner, I think.
Yes you add a vacation mode. I have a cabin, so instead of occupied I have alone, family and hunters modes. Using cameras as an example. In away mode all cameras are on. In alone mode inside cameras are off, outside cameras are on. In family mode all cameras are off.
As long as you’re fine with modes being mutually exclusive it’s fine.
If you already have routines for away for instance, those will not run if you change to vacation, even if you’re technically away… so you’ll have to change them one by one to run when away or vacation or they’ll break.
I prefer virtual switches for that reason, instead of having a mode called “home at night with guests” I have three switches for home/away, day/night and guests and don’t have to worry about the combinations.
My hub was configured from the beginning with the “extra” mode–Home, Evening, Night, and Away modes–consequently, Routines were build around those states. I’ve been very happy with this configuration for years. YMMV, of course…
