Add an Alarm.com system as a secondary hub?

My alarm company just upgraded my system to use Alarm.com components. Since that system can also act as a z-wave hub is there any way to add it as a secondary controller to my Smarrtthings system?

Probably not.

Almost all security systems expect to be the primary controller for, well, security reasons.

That said, there are some community members who are using an integration method for alarm.com that works with the new SmartThings architecture. However, it will require setting up an additional device to act as a server between the two.

You can read about that and talk to other people using that method in the following thread:

[ST Edge] Smartthings Alarm.com Integration

I should add that if the integration method covered in the link I previously posted seems too technical for what you’re interested in, there might be some other options, depending on exactly what you’d like to do.

For example, if your alarm.com provider supports the alarm.com Alexa skill, You can probably use Alexa routines (not SmartThings routines) as an intermediary between SmartThingsand alarm.com.

The setup is more complicated than just a regular SmartThings routine, but it does usually give you quite a few additional integration options. Again, depending on the exact details of what you want to do. But you don’t need to deal with the technicalities of setting up an additional server like you do with the other method.

Thanks,
I was more interested in being able to leverage the open/close sensors from the alarm system into ST routines than actually controlling the system from ST so I’ll have to stick with Alexa integration.
