3D Printed Fire Tablet wall mount

What usb `cable is that in the first post?

Also is there room to install a screen protector in this thing? Anyone recommend a good one that won’t show finger prints.

Here is the adapter recommended by the 3D printer that did these for us…

Now that I have one, I can see why that specific adapter was recommended.
In order to make this work, we’ll need to either use that adapter linked above AND a male-to-male USB cable (pretty sure you don’t have one just sitting around), or find a cable that has both the ends we need on the same cable.

Any cable-makers here? lol

My initial response would be no, there’s not enough space. The clearance between the glass and the edge of the mount while sliding in and out is ‘not there’; the glass gets ‘cleaned off’ (I’m assuming it’s not actually leaving plastic behind on the glass) pretty good in a straight line across the screen from gliding past the mount plastic. I assume the plastic is getting either minutely ground off, or compressed or whatever (i.e. instead of it actually altering the glass in any way).

On the other hand, in light of the whole gliding thing above, and your excelent suggestion of a protector that doesn’t show prints, perhaps it wouldn’t hurt to have that screen protected anyway (rather have the protector take the heat of whatever is happening when it glides. As for whether or not it would actually fit, I have no idea. For now, I’m leaving mine naked.

This cord looked pretty good for my needs… I think? Does it look right?

Make sure the orientation of the right angle is right (small side of the connected out). I got the right angle 2 pack on this page: Amazon.com.

Haven’t hooked it up yet, but I think it’ll be just long enough to reach a recessed USB outlet behind the mount. Still looking for the outlet however.

RE: the last cord and adapter posted above…

When you look at the included photos on the product page that you linked to, they are not consistent. So, there is no way of knowing whether this one actually turns one way or the other. Recommend = Buy only after checking with the seller or asking question on Amazon to find out which way it turns for sure, because it definitely matters. If this one is confirmed to work, it would be an ideal candidate since it has some length and exactly the plug you’d need on the outlet end.

With this one, all of the photos on the product page show it turning the correct way for what we need for this mount.
The only drawback to this one is that it’s an adapter and not really a cable. The good thing is that the ‘other’ end is simply a ‘regular’ male USB plug. So, you just need a USB extension cable to make it to wherever your power source is.

I think it should reach the usb port in the outlet that’s sitting right behind the mount. Will let you know if that works once I’ve installed one.

Purchased this screen protector and applied. Very minimal thickness. No issues sliding it in to the mount.

Status update on mounting with the short cable?

Lets see some mounted pictures!

I couldn’t remember exactly which cables and/or adapters have been posted. So, sorry if this is already here somewhere…

While buying something else for another project, I noticed this on Amazon and bought it…

It comes with two versions; one angled one way and the other the other way.
I know we only need one of them, but ya get both.

It says it’s for Chromecast; which makes sense.

The power source end is male instead of female. So, when using it with this 3D printed mount, unless your power source with USB outlets is immediately inside the hole you cut in the wall, you will need a ‘regular’ USB extension cable to get to the power source.

It’s an Amazon add-on item, and only costs $3.99/Prime.

Email Mike@dipsmith.co He is also on this forum @DipSmithLLC

Ill update the first post and add his contact info.

Hopefully he can still get these out to people.

I did have to modify mine a bit. There is a slot on the back side for the charging cable to go in. It wasnt wide enough for my cable. I just used a utility knife to open it up a bit. Maybe Mike can modify the file a bit to widen it.

I can make adjustments. Just let me know what you need.

I don’t typically get updates on this thread so if anyone wants me to make one please reach out

I am not using the one I bought… I never could root my Fire… ended up giving it to the grand daughter… let me know and I will sell it to you… it is black

Just a recommendation: widen the channel in the rear to accommodate larger cables. Mine are both modified to suit my cables.

Thanks, but I dont need another one. Already have 2. maybe someone here will need another one?

I did buy another tablet for my son. The 8in Fire HD. Not sure if my wife will allow me to hang it on the wall though! Shes not happy with the one I installed in the kitchen. It got in the way of where she hangs seasonal decorations…

Fit for the cord was a little tight, but I got it to work without modification. Widening it a bit would be a good idea though.

What do people have behind them? I’d like to install a recessed outlet (right now it’s just an open blue box), but haven’t found one that will really fit.

Here’s a picture of one of them in action.

This is what I have behind mine. I just went to HD to buy an outlet with USB ports, so I dont have to have the tablets charging block to deal with.

It is kinda large so the screws that hold the tablet mount to the wall do go through the frame of the outlet box.

Thanks. I looked at something similar, but the frame was large enough to show from behind the mount, so I didn’t install it.

This one is completely behind the tablet. Cannot see the box at all. I mounted it and the tablet horizontal. If I wasnt at work, Id upload a pic of the install.

I am looking for one for sure. @DipSmithLLC I’ll Email you.

Thank you
