Hi the vast majority of devices that may have child devices are simply buttons that have 4 or 5 buttons. I don’t have many and they are all Ikea buttons which are added via a matter bridge. So I only had to re-add the Ikea hub itself. Each Ikea device is included in the count. But I wouldn’t expect each button on each device to count towards the limit. If they do count, then this is a new restriction. Perhaps the engineers will provide details
It certainly doesn’t make sense to me. Yes, you could hypothetically install 260 individual things and end up with 300 devices in ST with all the child devices. However you would be able to see all 300 of those devices.
You seem to have installed less than 260 things and ended up with 260 devices in ST including all the child devices.
The mobile app filters out MOBILE devices and summary GROUPS and has the concept of hidden devices, the AWA doesn’t. I don’t have any restricted devices, which the API doesn’t list by default, so I don’t know if they show in the AWA. However they seem to be things like Nest devices so you’d notice if they weren’t there.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the mobile app is trying to count for itself instead of letting the API do it.
I have checked each of my Devices that has a “Child” device and for each the child device is also listed, and is included in the count for 260 devices. The only other thing I do that controls Multiple devices. are the [Philips Hue LAN [BETA] (3rd Party Driver, Not ST Native)] devices. I Zone all my lights and only bring through the zones, so I don’t think this can be the issue either. ST won’t be aware of how many lights are being controlled by the Zone.
I have created a second location with just a single v2 hub. And I’ve added all my matter bridged devices. Connected to Hue, And in total it’s listing 291 devices. And I am still able to add more devices if I wish.
I’m sharing your feedback with the engineering team so they can take a closer look and help us better understand what might be going on.
I have increased the number of devices listed in the test location to 299 and I’m able to create new devices. Once I hit 300 as expected I’m no longer able to add devices. So in my normal location I can only add 250 devices. I’m wondering, I bought a new 65” 2024 Frame TV with a built in SmartThings.. could this be the cause of the reduced limit ?
11 days later:
You should have mentioned that in your original post that the other hub is not another V2 hub, but a built-in hub.
The V2 hub has 512 MB RAM, the V3 only has 128 MB. I don’t know how much RAM the integrated hubs have, but certainly not as much as the old V2.
My main location has a v2 a v3 and a Built in Hub. The TV was only recently added.
My test location just has a v2. Are locations with built in Hubs limited ?
I have no idea, but it would make sense in case of a fail-over situation.

(Maybe )I’m stupid, but why don’t you use your “test location” as your “main location”? I mean, the original problem was that you accidentally deleted your V2 hub, but now you have all of your devices back?
Hi @Jeff_Gallagher
I sen you a DM
Thanks yes it seems that my original assumption was correct. For some reason when I deleted my hub the associated devices were not deleted. I’ll review the phantoms and reply to you message.
Great news
Thanks for your patience!
The team is actively working on improving how these cases are handled to prevent similar issues in the future.
