Z-Wave network allows multiple controllers and does not depend in any way on the ST cloud. Therefore, you can have full local control, using your favorite Z-Wave remote, regardless of whether ST hub is involved or not. The hub just gives you another control point that can be accessed remotely, which is not possible with X10 without third-party hardware. Just my 2 cents…
Doesn’t matter. For the last two days, ST hasn’t bothered to manage my Keen Smart Vents. Last f’ing straw.
As a result, I’ve accelerated my schedule to dump ST entirely from this summer to this Thursday, when the Keen Hub arrives.
My X-10 lighting works reliably, although not particularly automated. The Keen vents in my home don’t need much controlling during summer, so I’ll suffer along until they support Ecobee remote sensors in a couple of months.
using the word suffer is a bit dramatic, no?
Did they just all drop off your mesh? Or why are they not working?
“suffer” was intended as irony.
Don’t know why it quit working, don’t much care at this point.
The vents are still visible in the Android app, and I can manually control them there.
Why the time-based automation quit working is because SmartThings. Again.
So I’m no longer going to waste hours of my life on badly-designed, poorly-managed fake home automation from ST.
