With the release of Matter 1.3 in May 2024 (that now supports energy data), and SmartThings supporting Matter 1.3 since early October 2024, do these Tapo P110M plugs now transmit energy data in SmartThings without needing the Tapo cloud-to-cloud connection?
If I may ask one more question: Is it possible to create routines in SmartThings using the energy data from the Tapo P110M plug?
Not to my knowledge.
Unfortunately not.
Thanks for the response! Ah, that rules out my use case, as I need routines to be able to utilise energy data.
I still have a number of Samsung ST Smart Plugs, but unfortunately, they keep failing on me - not a single one has lasted more than 5 months, and over the years, I must now be on over a dozen. You can read more about my experience in my thread: Samsung SmartThings Plug 2019 - Not Very Reliable.
Since 2021, every single one of these plugs have died, so Iâve been looking for alternative options that might offer better reliability. Just to note, Iâm not using them for high loads; theyâre only powering a laptop, docking station and external monitor during working hours (and I have few of these scattered around the house, for the exact same purpose, due to having a few family members working from home).
Regular purchase of these at an average price of ÂŁ29.99 every time has got rather costly!
I did have some success with the Kasa KP115 (with the Edge driver: TP-Link Kasa Edge Driver (also LIFX)), however, they have not been in stock at Amazon for a very long time. Kasa Mini Smart Plug by TP-Link, WiFi Outlet with Energy Monitoring, Works with Amazon Alexa(Echo and Echo Dot), Google Home and Samsung SmartThings, Wireless Smart Socket (KP115) : Amazon.co.uk: DIY & Tools
I have never had a failure of those.
I think Tapo replace Kasa.
I believe matter does not natively support power usage yet, hence the cloud to cloud for the Tapo P110M (UK).
I might try these Onvis Matter over Thread plugs and hope energy monitoring is added later.
Also Innr make some which are zigbee with energy monitoring.
I have no idea if either of these will work for you.
Hello @Andrew_Bartlett!
I followed the steps you described, but unfortunately I still only see the power on and off in the ST and the power consumption monitoring is still not available. Do you have any ideas? Thanks
Tapo and Kasa are both made by the one company, Tplink. Thatâs doesnât mean Kasa are not better but they are probably made in the same factories
Tapo P110M Just got matter 1.3 energy monitoring
Thanks to @mocelet for post on reddit with driver
By the way, SmartThings Energy supports the P110M through the cloud integration but apparently not through the local Matter 1.3 integration which now reports energy too. Do Tapo and/or SmartThings need to do anything to make that happen? Tagging @nayelyz & @Itati .
Hi @mocelet
Just to confirm, when you mention that the P110M shows up in SmartThings Energy through the cloud (C2C) integration but not when connected via Matter, do you mean that:
- If you add the device through the Tapo cloud integration, it appears in SmartThings Energy
- But if you add it through Matter, even though it supports energy reporting, it doesnât appear in SmartThings Energy?
Also, could you share a screenshot from the Advanced Users section showing the fingerprint of the device when connected via Matter (e.g. model and manufacturer info)? That would really help us check the details.
Hi @Itati, exactly, while I donât use the cloud integration, the P110M shows up in SmartThings Energy when using the linked cloud account. Tapo announces it and some users here also confirm it.
My P110M is added via Matter and doesnât show up in SmartThings Energy which I totally understand given the firmware update for energy monitor was released yesterday so itâs probably not in SmartThings whitelist yet.
The Matter fingerprint is manufacturer Tapo (Supplier ID 5010) and model âSmart Wi-Fi Plugâ (Product ID 262). Mine is for the European market so itâs 262, there are more regional IDs from 261 to 268 I believe.
Type G Plug (UK, etc.) is 264.
Did you contact Tapo for it?
Not directly, after all I think itâs a SmartThings issue even if their modus operandi is that vendors have to ask for a special certification (and pay a fee?) to appear in ST Energy. Iâm not asking a vendor to do that .
However, I commented in the official reddit and Iâm pretty sure they must have read it.
You might be right. Something needs to be paid to use.
