I commented on a facebook post from when the new models were announced, and my reply seems VERY promising. The response leads me to believe that either Zigbee or Z-Wave exists in the product.
Itâs not zigbee or Z wave. Itâs still Bluetooth. But theyâre adding a Bluetooth/WiFi bridge, called zip, which is how they will get the integration.
Both use Bluetooth LE, and the Switchmate Power has WiFi too. Switchmate has a Bluetooth/WiFi bridge, dubbed Zip, which can connect the Switchmate Bright to your router for remote access too.
Unless theyâre under the impression that the Bluetooth radio in the SmartThings hub actually does something, because they are using Bluetooth direct to the Wink 2.
I read about the Zip as well. One thought in mind is that they might have âOne more thingâ that hasnât been announced. The wording âWhen the product is releasedâ and âmany other hubsâ lead me to many questions.
Weâll see what actually gets delivered, but Iâll bet a virtual pizza the next generation Switch is Bluetooth-only.
It looks like Switchmate posted just 4 days ago on their Facebook page, that they expect their new âSwitchmate Brightâ to be compatible with Amazon Echo and Google Home - so hopefully it wouldnât be much work to integrate with SmartThings:
My #1 use case for this when itâs ready â is to turn our fireplace on and off via Echo/Google Home ⌠instead of installing a dry contact Z-Wave or Zigbee switch.
