Ring detection or other landline phone interface

Is there a simple way to set up & detect an incoming phone call to a landline to be detected as an event to trigger a follow on action. I came across this ckt. from Elk & wondered if ayone else has tried to use it in their own ST set-up. Could do some interesting things using Rule Machine.
