[RELEASE] Fibaro RGBW Controller (FGRGBWM-441) - Advanced DTH

In case anyone else is struggling, version 30.3 of the hub firmware seems to break this DTH. It can still issue commands but will likely fail to update the statuses of the channels. You will need v30.5 (currently in beta testing) to resolve.

So I downloaded and installed the Fibaro RGBW Advanced DTH and using the smart light app and choosing blue, it makes the light strip turn purple. Using the color wheel I can choose blue without a problem on the correct color but for some reason turning on with motion it turns purple.

Any suggestions?

Been using this device handler for a long time, but now we are forced to use the new Smartthings app starting next week and this device handler crashes the new app for me. Anyone else have this problem?

Looks like the Fibaro Rgbww controlers are not going to get any support, Codesaur is no longer active so the DTH will not get redone for the new app unless a clever member can recode

I just tried using the old app to change some colours as mine is installed outside with external leds round the front of the house, seems like it is responding still but slowly and not reporting back to the app properly

there should be a sticky thread on the forum warning potential purchasers that the devices can no longer be used with ST, they were the best you could buy now there useless

Itā€™s a shame ST/Samsung arenā€™t at the very least porting over theyā€™re own official device type handlers to work with the new app, but maybe theyā€™ve tried and canā€™t? Have you read the custom capability thread? Iā€™m pretty sure nobody would be able to do it at the moment, even if they were paid, theyā€™d need extra remuneration for ptsd. And thereā€™s only a week left before we all fly blind.

There seems to be a official Fibaro RGBW Controller DTH (https://github.com/richb1/FIBARO-Official-SmartThings-Device-Handlers/blob/master/FIBARO-%20RGBW%20Controller), it seems to work with the new Smartthings app, but it doesnā€™t have controls for every channel separately and I need that functionality.

I figured out a way how I can keep using the Codesaurā€™s Advanced DTH by automating it with Sharptools rule engine (https://sharptools.io) and their app on Android (You can set up widgets to control specific channels using it).
Also found a fix that makes Alexa and Google Home able to control colors correctly in this thread, so everything except the Smartthings app works as it should. So I will be using Codesaurā€™s Advanced DTH until they turn off the ability to use custom device handlers and then I will move to Habitat.

If Fibaro have released an official DTH wonder why its not included in the Fibaro supported device selection in the new app ? Oversight or designed for old app but has limited use in new app which is probably what it is

Are the special colour options available in the new app such as fireplace and police etc and are they exposed as automation options ?

Iā€™ve got some old rgbw fibaro that worked perfectly fine so i bought 3 new devices recently.
I was disappointed to notice that the new versions are not working. New versions have no antena and have a QR code on the device itself.
My problem is that the colors are changing very slowly ( about 1 minute) and scenes like police, fireplace etc are not working at all.
I tried official/unofficial DTH , i tried changing the transition parameter ( 151 and 152) to 2-3 seconds, nothing seems to work and i canā€™t even return them; Canā€™t believe i wasted almost 200 euros on something i was sure it will work.
The version of the controller that i have is 442.
Can someone else confirm that they have the same problem?

The fibaro rgbww controlers are not currently supported in the new ST app, the device works to a degree but non of the special features such as police and fireplace are available, and from my experience the colour wheel is also out of whack

Your not alone in being annoyed

same product but 1-2 year old version works perfectly fine. I can trigger police lights and others simple with webcore. My problem is new one doesnt work with web core either and from smartthings color changes take 1 min for transitions .
So basically 3 out of 5 products are almost useless and iā€™m not even sure this can be solved with a DTH in the future so i can install them like this or is a firmware related problem

I edited the device type using IDE to the second entry called ā€œFibaro RGBW Controllerā€.
Smarththing app crashes, but works well using Alexa.

can you please elaborate ?
does it change the color instantly now ?
did you tried webcore to see if presets like police lights are working?
if yes, what exactly did you changed in DTH, thanks

Looks like fibaro rgbw users are all having to find different methods to use the controlers

In the long distant past @cobra no longer a member, wrote some great fibaro smart apps, luckily I had those installed before he removed them from github, I can still use those and virtual buttons to trigger all the special fibaro options, I also have the fibaro device type set to the ST standard fibaro rgbw device type as I found this the most reliable

Its far from ideal but just about gets round the limitations of no official fibaro support

Goto Edit Device from IDE as select the following type.

Limited functionality, but there is a noticeable delay, some may call it elegance. If you have any piston you can share, I can try in webcore.

iā€™ve already tried that, doesnā€™t fix anything, 442 version is pretty much useless for smartthings

Mike,
Iā€™m still here
Iā€™m just not very active on these forums now as I donā€™t use ST

Andy

Wonderful to see your still around Andy, donā€™t worry, I wonā€™t badger you too create apps but they were excellent and still work :grinning:

As I said above, fibaro switch has become invaluable to me to keep my Fib running

Hoop jumping was needed with v switches but I do have access to the custom special affects

Thank you thank you

Got the special effects working. Police lights etc all working fine.

Step 1 - Set device type for Fibaro RGBW

Step 2 - Create a virtual RGB

Step 3 - Configure piston.

However, you will need different switches for each one.

@fido
Mike
I donā€™t think I have the code anymore but Iā€™m happy for you to share it if you wish.
I believe I released this as open source.

Andy

Thanks Andy, at mo we are trying to get official support from fibaroā€¦ you never know, pigs might fly

If I get time I will do my best at sharing it again but as you found out last time, I am far from ofay with github and the like lol
