Recommendation on plug in outlet for GFCI

I want to control the GFCI outlet in the bathroom because my girlfriend keeps leaving her curling iron on. Does the GE appliance module still allow the second outlet to be used or does it cover up both? What about the SmartThings module? Are they compatible with plugging in to a GFCI? Will they handle a curling iron? Why does 7/11 have locks on their doors?

The GE Appliance Module will handle up to 15 amps, and does not interfere with the other duplex socket. I use one to control two very substantial audio amplifiers and have not had a problem.
